Default I need some help
Does anyone have any idea how to choose a decent ball that doesn't cost $40 per dozen. My swing speed is approx 107 mph but I also have a 26 hanicap. Any help would be appreciated.

1) listen to this weeks webcast
2) get tested - (Bridgestone does testing, check out their site for when they willbe in your area.. that is what i did)

If you lose a lot of balls, buy cheap balls, and see for yourself what you like. If you want to test 'quality' balls at low cost, you can buy them used (but still very useable).

I started by reading a bunch of reviews. Then went out and bought/tried a ball that sounded close to what I wanted, until I found something I liked from tee box to green.

+1. Also, you local golf shop should sell you sleeves of golf balls...even if they aren't on display.

Also, talk to your local golf retailer like Golf Galaxy, etc. They almost always have a knowledgeable guy on staff who can steer you in the right direction after asking some questions. Not as good as a ball fitting, but its a quick fix.

depending on your schedule....my advice is always (aside from a ball fitting).....

.....buy balls by the sleeve. purchase a good assortment of mid-range balls from all the OEM's and head out to the course during off-peak times, then play two or three balls at a time. this way....you're not holding anyone up and you're getting an idea of their performance under the same conditions, tee to green.

I've done that for years....long before the technology of simulators and launch monitors. it always worked for me. to be honest though.....imo, balls are like putters, it's all about feel and confidence. I play the ball that feels and looks best to me. it usually isn't the top performing ball (numbers wise) for me but I am able to sacrifice a few yards of length or dispersion for confidence on and around the dancefloor.

but its hard to argue against the value in the new fitting technology. numbers don't lie.

do what you can. the process is always fun....whichever route you take.

All great advice. Your game sounds similar to mine (106mph, ~23 hdcp). A lot depends on what you're looking for a ball to do for you. Myself, I wanted a ball that could bring down the flight some since I tend to hit the ball high. The Bridgestone e7+/e7 does a great job of that for me.

I'd recommend taking a look at the Bridgestone e-series, Srixon Trispeed, Titleist NXT Tour, Wilson Zip, or other similar mid-range three-piece balls. They have a good blend of performance at a lower price than the premium $40+/doz balls.

With your Swing Speed, you might have spin
issues, as in too much, and probably should choose
a low spin ball. Some retailers carry the Pro V1X
practice balls in bulk at approx $29.99.
