I just heard in conversation that a deep-faced driver is generally lower launching than say a shallow faced driver. If that is so, why is it?

I feel a deep faced driver gives me more confidence, even though my misses are usually on the toe, which indicates to me that a wider, shallow faced driver might be better.

I'm guessing here, but I'd say that a deep faced driver has a higher center of gravity and so launches the ball lower. Of course, most of the weight in a driver head is discretionary and is usually placed fairly low down in the cavity, so the difference between two drivers with the same discretionary weight and two different designs (deep and shallow) wouldn't be vast.

I tend to agree. I think swing also has something to do with it also as I play with a guy that uses a deep face 9 degree driver but hits the ball very high. If I hit the club, the ball flight is much lower.
For me, I found out long ago that loft was my friend and I have been playing 13 degree drivers for several years. I give up a little distance, but not all that much but gain acceracy and I know being in the fairway is what it is all about.
