Make dua for its completion.

KOZHIKODE: India's largest mosque is planned to be built in Kozhikode covering an area of 12 acres on the sprawling 'Knowledge City' complex of Islamic religious and Cultural Jamia Markazu Ssaquafathi Ssunniyya near here.

Estimated to cost Rs 40 crore for construction, the mosque would be able to accommodate 25,000 people for prayer at a time, Markazu sources here said.

According to Riyaz Muhammad, the Thrissur-based architect who has done the design for the mosque, the magnificent structure would be following the Mughal architectural style.

"It would strictly follow the green-building concept so that the built-up area will harmoniously blend with the greenery around", Riyaz said.

While the building alone would cover an area of 8 acres, it would surrounded by a green-blet and beautiful garden of four acres, he said.

Besides the vast prayer hall, the complex would have auditorium for conducting seminars, huge library and facilities for accommodating over 1000 people at a time.

"This has been conceived as a grand mosque, which will also be one of India's important Islamic cultural centre", Markazu sources said. The work on the mosque would begin within five months and it would be completed in less than two years.

Located at Karanthur about 10 km from Kozhikode, Markazu is a leading Islamic centre of learning and charity, headed by religious scholar Kanthapuram A P Aboobker Musliyar.

Know where Markazu, Kozikhode is in India?

I THINK they are barelvis, though I'm not sure... 'coz in India and esp. in Kerala, the barelvis call themselves as Sunni's...though I must admit when I checked their website, there isn't that barelvi showiness on display which is great! http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ies/alhamd.gif http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ilies/mash.gif and its more on austere lines http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ilies/mash.gif x 100

The place itself is very very beautiful, Kerala, its promoted as God's own country - for its scenic beauty and its also a homeopathy hub, so you get all types of natural remedies, oils & what not, if nothing else works, go to kerala, try homeopathy, if that doesn't work, at least one could die in some truly natural environs http://discussworldissues.com/forums.../icon_wink.gif

Most of the older generation are brelvis and are against the effort of dawah. I remember when we used to arrive into the an area, th muazzin will make an announcement over the mic informing the local community jammat is present and do not listen to their smooth talk. However the young/educated professioanls are more inclined towards the effort. I remember a Molana Moossa RA who was very close to the elders in Nizamuddin and made good effort in the whole state.

One of the brewalvi organisations in Calicut (that is the british name for Kozhikode) had a huge complex there, like a mini city, are they the ones building the mosque
