Default Not losing weight after 10 days on Atkins! HELP!
Hi Everyone!
I could really use some advice. I have being doing the Atkins diet for 10 days now and in the first few days, I lost 2lbs but the 2lbs have come back! I have been eating under 20 carbs a day and have been really stricked about checking the carbs on everything I eat so I don't understand what is going wrong. I have done Atkins before (about 5 or 6 years ago) and I lost 40lbs in a matter of 2 months, so I definitely know how to do it right. I weight 160lbs when I first tried Atkins and got down to 120lbs. I don't understand what is going wrong this time around? I had a baby a few years ago and I am trying to get back to where I was before the pregnancy. Now I weigh 180lbs and I'm not budging! I obviously have the weight to lose (trying for 40lbs). I know I'm not accidentally eating more carbs than I should or anything like that. I have a NetDairy that keeps track of all the carbs, calories, etc. that I eat everyday. I am so depressed! I feel like noting is working for me!

Breakfast:

4 egg whites and one whole egg scrambled
1 oz (7 cubes) of cheddar cheese (Sargento Cheese Cubes, 1 carb per 7 cubes)

Lunch:
1 can of Light Tuna w/ mayo (0 carb)
1 Atkins Daybreak Bar

Dinner:

Romaine Lettuce (3 cups)
Olive oil for dressing
Some sort of meat, chicken, pork or fish (usually Tilapia or Cod)
some sort of veggie (usually sauteed mushrooms)

Snack:
Cucumbers with blue cheese dipping sauce

*Sometimes I will have dry buffalo wings-no sauce or anything on them-they are not breaded or anything. I also drink an Atkins Advantage Shake occasionally in the morning (2 carbs) but not every day. Sometimes for lunch will have grounded lean turkey (0 carbs)

I will eliminate them and see what happens. I drink a lot of cherry coke zero (0 carbs) since I'm not too fond of water. I know I should probably drink more water so I went out yesterday and purchased the Lipton single packets to give my water some flavor (1 carb per packet). I'm thinking that might be better than not drinking any water at all?

I also would eliminate the pop. Bigtime. It might say 0 but that has stopped me from losing. I dont even drink water. I have been drinking tea. I drink peppermint or spearamint. green tea. I drink alot of it. I also use sweetner in them. I do not even count them but what I do may not be the same for you. But I def. would stop the pop!

First of all Lisa......Welcome to this forum.

I totally agree with what Cheryl has said re: the Atkins bars and shakes. I cannot eat either and lose any weight so I would also advise that you stop consuming those.

Water is the very best choice to drink and I drink at least 64 ounces a day and in the summer more than that and also herbal tea (Green tea is my favourite.)http://www.everythingatkins.net/water.html

Diet soft drinks are not good for you and have hidden sugars etc. I read this in an article which might help you consider stopping your consumption of diet cherry coke: A Better Perspective on Weight Loss
Clearly, the most obvious reason to drink zero calorie beverages such as Coke Zero and Pepsi Max is to reduce calorie intake, and in turn, lose weight. Ironically, although this is a controversial topic with research supporting both sides, it’s been shown in at least one study that people who rely on artificially sweetened beverages are more likely to gain weight.1 In association with this, aspartame in particular has been shown to increase appetite2 and calorie consumption.3

Otherwise your menu looks good. As Cheryl also said, check the labels on salad dressings as well.
Good luck this time around!

Congratulatons on the birth of your baby!

I am sure others will respond to your questions! Don't give up but continue with what you are doing minus the bars, shakes and diet cherry coke and I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised!

Cheryl is one of our "success stories" and there are many more! Great forum!

My observation is that you are not eating a lot of fat. Most of your protein sources are very low fat.

Second, your vegetable selection is also a bit slim -- lettuce does not provide much in the way of nutrients.

And finally, your calorie intake could be too low. I am not sure from just looking at the menu -- but you are on the low side.

Jo-I am definitely going to stop drinking the Cherry Coke Zero. I never really drank that much soda to begin with until I started Atkins 10 days ago. I figured I needed to drink something. But now that I know this info I will switch to water with the flavor packets (1 carb each). And thank you!
Mike-how many calories do you think I should be eating? I'm 5'5, 180lbs. And what vegetables would you suggest? Any help would be appreciate. I really want this to work but I am getting very discouraged. But I will not give up until I try all the advice offered first!

Remember the 3 cups vegetables a day rule (from 2002 edn - not sure in NANT ). When I first dd Atkins in 2005 I lost 11kgs (25lbs) in the first 2 weeks. I ate bacon/steak/eggs/mushrooms and occasionally asparagus for breakfast; salads selected from mixed lettuse/cherry tomatoes/green beans/snow peas/mushrooms/cauliflower florets/celery/occasionally 1/2 small carrot or 1/2 pineapple ring & cheicken or other cold meat or cheese for lunch; lots of stir fries of meat and 5-6 serves of veges for dinner. one cup coffee per day only, up to 2 decaffs. 2 litres water. Meat not trimmed to lean, but with some fat on. Chicken with skin on. Cook in olive oil or butter.

The weight just melted off. EAT MORE VEGETABLES! And prepare all food from fresh.

Welcome Lisa! Wow, everyone got here before I did! LOL I do have to say, and I know I will get my hand slapped for this, but I was able to have one or two diet sodas a day, coffee in morning, and somedays flavored my water 1/2 strength with crystal lite. I also used weak sun tea with no sweetners. I love to put heavy cream in diet orange or rootbeer sometimes and have an "ice cream soda"! LOL

HOWEVER, the artificial sugars can cause some not to lose or stall, so trying without them is good. Also, I agree with eating more....more fat and veges. And do not choose the lite tuna, go for the oil! Remember, we are not looking for the diet/low calorie foods here.

I dont have a lot of time in the morning , so I do have a diet soda for my caffiene fix and instead of eating a whole atkins bar, I only eat half which also saves a lot of money, because there expensive. My lunch is usually leftovers and my snack is celery and cream cheese. Dinner is a meat and veggie. sometimes if I need a sweet I wil have sugar free popsicle or jello. I walk 2miles miles a night and drink alot of water, but by all means have to have my soda in the morning. Good Luck! I have 7 pounds to my goal!

Congratulations mgedney! Way to go!

You are close enough to start pre-maintenance (Atkins) and it is a good way to find out what you will be eating for the rest of your life.

Sounds like you're sugar sensitive and you should drop all candy bars and milkshakes immediately.

You didn't post how many calories that is, but it looks too low. No way that's enough fat unless you're using a lot of the dressing, which may also be carby.

Eat 5 or 6 times a day, fatty foods are okay, no substituting sugar for sugary substitutes for a while... wait one week and see if the things aren't moving the right direction.
