Default Doctor visit and MyFitnessPal
Just had an appointment with my primary care doctor yesterday -- blood was drawn about a week ago, and I'm still surprised how the numbers look great. Although he doesn't know that I follow Atkins (over a year ago he told me to "concentrate on vegetables...broccoli is good...eat a lot of broccoli" and "don't eat any fruit besides apples" and "just use oil and vinegar, don't use any other salad dressing" -- seriously, that's the only nutrition advice he's given me ). But yesterday I did tell him that I've struggled with weight loss lately, and that I'd been following a low-carb plan. His response: "skipping potatoes and bread and things like that is fine, and I don't care much for things like pizza, but I would never skip sausage and peppers and pasta). BTW, I know that the extended stall I've been on has been self-inflicted. While I'm not wholesale eating all kinds of carbs, I've traveled a few times since this last summer, and did stray occasionally, and the weight has been yo-yo sticking around since then.

Anyway, when I brought up the weight loss struggles, he suggested I take a look at MyFitnessPal.com, because it had worked pretty well for him. I've been on the site today, and registered, but I don't know too much about it. If anyone has any experience with it (while on Atkins), I'd like to hear about it. One thing that jumped out to me right away -- when I entered my numbers, it came up with a preliminary plan for me to limit protein and fat, and increase carbs (to some 250 grams a day!). I know that's not going to work for me. I know that some use MFP while on Atkins, but I don't know the inside stuff to get it to recognize that you're following a particular set of nutrition guidelines.

BTW -- in the MFP forums, there is a heavy anti-Atkins sentiment, along with a handful of people (who seem to be routinely ignored) that offer sounds Atkins advice.

Thanks,
Guy
