rvalen07, I buy mine at Safeway. Also I'm not so certain that SMinSoCal is correct about it not being protocol. Grissini and Melba Toast are allowed. If you look up the calorie and fat count they are pretty close. 2 sticks of Grissini is 45 calories 1.5 gm of fat. The 2 lrg Melba Toast is 40 calories 0 fat gm. Soooo if I'm wrong I stand corrected. Just trying to help :0)

Yes, that would be correct. 1 per meal 2 per day. Lunch and dinner.

I'm completely new to this but was thinking tuna with mustard (in lieu of mayo) and dill pickles (cucumbers are ok) would all work and be in line with the diet plan. I was in the deli section of a large grocery store and they had the breadsticks - grissini style on the counter there (the said they were thin - 3 of them are 110 cal so one is roughly 36 cals). I would describe them as long skinny and probably crunchy... like you sometimes get at a restaurant. The grissini description was really small on the labeling of Dellallo brand. The melba I found was 50 cals. I think the sticks would be better. I was also thinking they would make a nice coating for fish (all ground up)mixed with herbs. Especially if.. as stated its seems like more of a tease. Any thoughts or comments on the pickles??

I have grissini bread sticks that are really long & skinny & 6 of them are only 60 cals & 1 grm of fat, are these not the right ones? I'm so confused. I wish it would just say what calorie/fat/carb/protien content we have to have for the melba toast or bread stick. then I could figure something out. does anyone know what that might be?

I know this isn't on the protocol, but the information I got said one melba toast or 2 melba rounds since they are smaller than the toast.

I don't get why do many vets are anti melba. As a matter of fact, I wonder if that doesn't impact the foods you can eat when you finish. I mean if you go totally anti-carb for 9+ weeks, then it stands to reason that the second you touch a grain you will gain. I don't want my body to forget that we eat grains.

I'm starting P2 again today after an interruption from TOM. And this time I am going to eat high fiber bran melba to help me "move." Melba is melba for heaven's sake and the protocol doesn't say anything about having to eat rounds the size of half dollars. I eat melba that is larger than those, doesn't have sugar added (most white bread melbas have mollassas) and lower in calories. And its not freakin off protocol.

If it's half the size of a piece of bread, it's more than twice the size of a standard melba toast - the only kind that existed back when the protocol was written - and would be off protocol, the same as if you were eating two and a half pieces of melba, instead of one.

Just "weighing" in here. My box says : All Natural Melba Toast Classic by Old London. It's the only kind that was available in my grocery store. 1 piece is about 5.6g (I only know this because a serving size is 3 pieces (17g), 60 calories. Anyway, mine measures up to about the length/width of a piece of regular toast with the crust cut off....give or take a tad. Well....since I have a tape measure in every room now....here is actual. 2" wide by 4" long. The box doesn't say "super sized" or big sized...just All Natural Melba Toast Classic by Old London. That's what I have understood to be on protocol.

I am no veteran but I did give these up after day 3 because I noticed they had Molasses & Dextrose in them, I couldn't find an alternative in a 30 mile radius and so many of the vetrans had given them up to maximize losses. Without the advice of the vetrans on here, I would have (A) Cheated unkowingling probably daily and (B) Probably have quit the diet.

This is what I believe. Stay on protocol as very best that you know using the resources you trust the most, whatever those may be and do your best to encourage others going through this trying and fun time in their lives.

I'm going to continue eating the Melba toast being that is on protocal, unless I stall. The crunch I crave :0) I wonder if the old fashion rounds have the Molasses and Dextrose in them as well. I"ll have to check that out. Funny how this could turn into a hot topic over Melba Toast. Just really goes to show how badly we all want this to work for everbody. I love the feedback. Only bumms me out when some people feel that they know absolutely everything when they really don't. I wish Grammie could speak on this one. I trust her opinion, and she has a kind way of puting it if your off protocol..

I'm having this issue as well. The store only had "Melba Snacks", which are small round pieces (4 pieces = 50 calories). I went to the company's website - and they have both Melba Snacks AND Melba Toast (1 piece = 20 calories).

I am on day 5 of the HC3 Trim protocol (3rd LCD) and see that it calls for "5 Melba Rounds" throughout the sample meal plan. The only product I see that Old London makes besides Melba Toast is Melba Snacks. 4 of these are 60 calories and my booklet says 5=60 calories. I understand that calories aren't the only factor of importance, so I'm trying to find a definitive answer as to if my eating 4 Melba Snacks when my sample meal plan says 5 Melba Rounds is ok?
thanks for any info!

I ate a "serving" of melba snacks (or toast) when I needed a crunchy or needed that extra 60 calories to hit the 500.
I didn't see any slow-down in loss on the days I ate melba.

I never did understand how much exactly I was supposed to eat (what's "one" from the original protocol?) - so I ate them according to caloric need.

I think it should be remembered that not everyone is following the same "protocol". for those on the HC3Trim method of homeopathic drops, it clearly states in the instruction booklet that "Melba Toast - 1 piece" or "Melba Rounds - 5 pieces" or "Grissini Breadsticks (Torini) - 4 pieces" may be eaten for a snack. The instructions are that "snacks" can be eaten "2 servings per day, not more than one in one meal or snack". So this would mean you could eat 5 melba rounds at lunch and 4breadsticks at dinner!!

(This is in the guide book that comes with the HC3Trim program that includes all supplements & drops. It's a 42 day program with half-dropper full to be taken every 12 hours sublingually.)

I think when people say "protocol" they mean Dr. Simeons's program which clearly states ONE melba toast or ONE breadstick to be eaten twice daily (not together).

With all of that said, I recently experienced my first day of no weight loss (I'm on day #15 of VLCD) and today I gained 0.4lbs. I'm taking this quote from Simeons's protocol to heart: The most tiresome patients are those who start counting calories and then come up with all manner of ingenious variations which they compile from their little books. When one has spent years of weary research trying to make a diet as attractive as possible without jeopardizing the loss of weight, culinary geniuses who are out to improve their unhappy lot are hard to take. and I'm going to limit myself to ONE melba toast twice a day and see if my weight loss picks up. Although I'm pleased to be down 10.8lbs, I want to give myself the best shot at achieving my goal!

But I'm hoping someone can answer these questions: 1) is the breadstick super skinny or kind of substantial looking - like the thickness of a Sharpie marker? I have two boxes and they look different. 2) is boxed chicken stock ok? it says fat free.

These boards have been most helpful and I'm so glad to see people that truly care about helping each other. I tried the Nutrisystem plan and their message boards were full of hateful people who were more interested in flirting and being mean to other board members than they were about losing weight, so I really appreciate the intellectual exchange of experiences and sharing of constructive criticism.

Good luck to everyone!
