The one thing I really wanted to know (and still do sorta) when I started this, is what were the recommended nutrient ratios of fat/carb/protein for the 500 calorie protocol. I guess I'm either very technical minded, or just like specific rules!
Anyway, I couldn't find anything that said "in selecting your 2 proteins, aim to stay under 18g of fat for the day" or "carbs shouldn't exceed 33% of your daily calories" or "make sure you get at least 40g of protein daily to avoid catabolizing your muscle"... that kind of stuff. I find Dr Simeons food plan rules rather wishy-washy, but I guess in the 50's, people didn't have easy instant access to that kind of information. Anyway, we do. And if anyone is using food tracking software (I use Fitday.com), the information is right there. IF YOU DO Would you please share your average nutrient ratios for the longest period you faithfully tracked your food and stuck with the protocol. There should be some kind of report menu that will let you select a date range or a month, or a couple weeks - however that software works. For instance, Fitday.com tells me that for the 10 days I've eaten VLC, my average day is 418 calories 22% fat (10.1 grams) 31% carb (34.2 grams, 24.9 net) 47% protein (47.8 grams) I'm not eating the exact protocol as written, as I am diabetic and have eaten low carb for a long time to control my blood sugars. So I skip the bread and do half the fruit, and make up the difference with a little extra protein and vegetables. As you can see, I have a hard time getting my calories up to 500 doing that. I hope other will participate in this data collection. It would be great if we could come up with some statistical averages for newbies to shoot for. We would have done something I haven't found available anywhere, not even on the hCG doctor clinic sites. |

I use sparkpeople.com. I'm looking at the reports and can't find averages, just daily totals. I'll keep looking for a way to calculate averages. Most days, I was about 50% protein, 30% carbs, 20% fats - so not so far off from you. I also had a hard time getting 500 calories and was 350-400 many days. I did not have the melba half the time and ate only one fruit most days. I had an avg of 4-4.5 oz of protein.
I'm not the hcg poster child. I had two very long stalls and did some experimenting with protein amts, eggs, and often ate way too late at night. I start P3 Saturday and lost 20 lbs in 40 days. |
