Am down five pounds since we started...I finally remembered to take my measurements(which I haven't done in quite a while) this morning...am down another inch around my mid-section...which is the hardest place for me to lose...that will make it a tad easier to actually appear poolside, in a bathing suit, the second of July when my family has a mini-reunion...and I meet my grand-daughter's boyfriend for the first time...
Belated thanks to both John and Tril for the info on sugar... Lynn |

I'm holding at about 2 lbs gone with 8 more to go, but I've been trying on dresses every chance I get to try and figure out what kind of progress I'm making and I can fit into 14's and 16's now, down from a 26 at my highest weight. My swim suit is starting to get huge, and friends and business associates I haven't seen in a while have been in shock when they've seen me again. So I'm feeling GREAT about myself right now even if the scale only says I'm down 2lbs. Yay!

Just had THE most divine zucchini noodle lasagna on earth. Even warmed up in the microwave it was spectacular. And we made fresh guac again this morning to eat on cucumber chips. Why on Earth haven't I been eating like this for years? Did the tacos and pizza and icecream REALLY taste as good as this? I don't think so. Lesson learned.
Happy Wednesday all! |

Add me to the "loves salt" list. The hub has always had a killer sweet tooth (he ate an entire half gallon of ice cream at my apartment once just before we got engaged), but though I've enjoyed me some sugar in the past, my biggest temptation has always been salty food. Pizza, chips, crackers.... *drool*. I've been working on cutting down on the sodium lately though, and I think, like with Hub's sweet cravings, I'm not as affected any more. We're avoiding most processed foods since they tend to be on the naughty side, and sticking with fresh veggies and meats. I don't add salt to the things I cook unless I absolutely have to.
Everyone feeling good so far this month? ![]() |

VLS.... I think it's a reasonable goal for you. Go for it! If you don't make it, so what? This journey is about a lot more than making a June goal... you'll be learning SO MUCH about how your body will respond to low carbing... and you'll have a more to base any future goals on. So for now... reach for the stars!

Just got back from weighing in....and I'm another pound down...YAY !!!
Have a question....do any of you use Fitday? and if so...when a food label lists sugar grams separate from the carb count which of these slots do you put it in? And, by alcohol do they mean actual drinking alcohol?? Fat g 0 % Saturated Fat g 0 % Polyunsaturated Fat g Monounsaturated Fat g Cholesterol mg 0 % Sodium mg 0 % Potassium mg 0 % Carbohydrate g 0 % Dietary Fiber g 0 % Protein g 0 % Alcohol This is the first time I've seriously entered every mouthful into the Fitday program..and it's really helping me... THANKS.... Lynn |

Like John said, the sugar grams are separated out for your information only. Those grams are part of the total carbohydrate grams. In the US, the fiber grams are also included in the total carb grams. We can deduct the fiber grams from the total... but NOT the sugar grams from the total.
The alcohol listing is probably there for anyone who needs to avoid it. Sugar alcohols are something totally different and will be listed as "sugar alcohols" in grams. Sugar alcohols ARE carbohydrate... usually they are deducted from the total carb count for you. Be careful of this... blood sugar tests done by diabetics report that they DO effect their BS, it depends on the person. A general rule of thumb among low carbers it to deduct only HALF the sugar alcohol grams, not 100% of them. One more thing about sugar alcohols... there is one being used that the FDA hasn't said can be considered a SA. That's glycerin... the one used in Atkins products. That's why the packaging can say "no sugar alcohols". ![]() Fitday is a great tool. I've used it on and off... just to give myself a wake up call (it will be obvious if you're overeating) or to double check things. Congrats on your continued weight loss!!!! ![]() |

Great job Ollie!!! Keep up the good work!
I too am down again today so that is 3.1 pounds so far for the month! 4.9 to go....I have kicked up the exercise....started measuring and writing down everything I eat....and am drinking a lot more water....that combo along with keeping my calories lower seems to have kick started a positive downward motion. (That along with the realization that I was sabotaging myself every time I hit a new low and was just losing the same two pounds over and over again!). For me working on figuring out what pushes me to "slip" is becoming a big part of this journey. I can stay focused for a long time - I have lost 60 pounds so far in the past year and five months....but I do lose focus and slip into a maintenance mode...(which is itself good)...but something keeps stopping me from reaching my final goal.... hopeful some good self-reflection, analysis, and awareness will help me get over this "hump" and get this last 20 pounds OFF! |

I have those moments as well. Lord knows we can't be Saints 100% of the time, but lately I've been trying to focus on the short term goals more and worrying less about the big picture. I know I've got around 85 pounds left to lose and that seems so overwhelming at times. But my ten pounds this month goal, or even just my goal to get up and exercise some every day is easier to swallow. I had a chance to go back and look at some pictures of myself at my worst the other day and I just felt so much more alive than I did this time last year. I was sick, fat, and miserable. Now I'm not. (still chunky though, Lol)
