It's not your property ... nor your right to make a decision whether you should pick it up or not ... but it is your RESPONSIBILITY to pick it up.

Why would you even question that, especially if asked to do so ?? My guess is you seldom pick it up ("sometimes" is what ... once or twice ever) and might not even routinely carry something to pick shit up with. Use a plastic grocery bag you can just stuff in your pants pocket. With your hand inside the bag, pick the shit up ... then while still holding the shit ... slide the bag up and over your hand so your hand is now on the outside of the bag and the shit is on the inside ... you can let go of the shit now ... and tie a knot in the bag.
