Hi
My Whippet Lurcher keeps going through stages where he looses quite a bit of weight regardless of how much additional food I feed him. I first noticed this a few years ago whilst we were camping and a trip to the vet didn't give us any insight why it happened. Last winter the same thing happened and it occurred to me that he was loosing weight when the weather was cold! I have been well prepared this year and he is now the proud owner of a purple waterproof coat and so far he seems to love it! I'm actually quite against dogs wearing clothes simply for the owners entertainment but I have to admit that he looks really cute! Louise |

I can't imagine either one of my dogs wearing any kind of clothing. One is a lab and the other one is a golden retriever. I think that if I put any kind of clothing on my black lab, she would be afraid to move and would start shaking. She is such a baby and is afraid of everything. She would probably have a heart attack if I tried putting any kind of clothing on her.
My sister has a small dog and she doesn't leave the house without clothes on her. When she first got her dog, she brought a suitcase of clothes for the dog with her. She went through so many different clothes changes in the short period of them that they were both there. |

My dogs are generally short-haired as well and I have to admit, I'm a little guilty of making them wear my crocheted sweaters. But I only do so when it's extremely cold and I have to use a second blanket to keep myself warm.
As long as your pet is comfortable with it, then I think it's perfectly fine that you both reap the benefits of the sweater- you for the sake of enjoying the sight while your dog for having that extra clothing to keep himself warm. Besides, according to Dogs 101, Whippets are thin and fragile so it is, after all, a good idea to have them wear coats in cold weathers. As for Huskies and other breeds belonging to the Spitz family, they already have double coats. So if you're the type who's making them wear another coat, that's probably considered a 3rd coating. |

Currently at this time we do not have a dog. We lost our dog (Jack Jack) about three weeks ago. We had him for about five years. We have not found a dog yet we want to adopt yet. However, when we still had Jack Jack he loved to wear his clothes. He did have a few sweaters that he did not like. Once I noticed that he always hated these few I stopped putting them on him. He liked wearing his sweaters more than the shirts in the summer time. I think this is because in the summer it was hot. However in the winter they helped to keep him warm. Poor Jack did not have a lot of hair, so he would get very cold in the winter time. I decided to stop putting his shirts on him so much in the summer and just had cute collars for him. I think he liked these a lot better. Either way, Jack always looked so cute in his clothes. It was very sad when I gave them away.

I'd love to get a coat for my two huskies but they have that much fur already lol. I think it suits little dogs more as they look cute in them. Whats your dogs name? He looks like he's having fun in the car on your avatar pic lol |

They've got very little body fat on them don't they? So I guess he probably does get very cold in the winter!
I have a german shepherd and she never gets cold, she goes in icy rivers and lakes no problem, weighs almost 100lbs and has a thick coat so I don't ever have to worry about her needing extra protection - although I don't think they make dog coats in XXXXXL anyway! In the summer though I have to be careful she doesn't overheat or exercise too much as she does get very hot very quickly on a hot day and needs a lot of hydration. I think it's good for any smaller dog that gets cold to have the added protection in the winter; a lot of breeds are not designed to survive in cold climates and do feel the cold. |

Tiny has never worn a coat in the three years of her life. This winter though, she kept refusing to go out for her nightly deed. We purchased a coat but she thinks it's a toy and refuses to wear it. Now we just change her schedule to where she doesn't have to go outside at night unless warmer weather comes around.

Most of my family had a meet up last weekend, and one brought their elderly dog which had a coat on.
I always saw most people who had clothes on their dog was a fashion statement. But when I saw this old girl, you see she needed it really. Was even an effort for her to run around like the younger dog that was there. And was quite chilly. |

I have a toy poodle so he doesn't shed. When he first gets his haircut he gets cold and shivers a lot even during the summer because of the a/c. So I have several things for him to wear. T-shirts, sweaters, and coats. It seems like my dog thinks he's a person though. He loves wearing them because of the attention. He will sit there and lift his front paws up for me one at a time for me to put them on. It's so cute. I'm glad he likes it because they keep him warm.
