I said "not recognized by MAJOR registrIES". It is generally accepted, that AKC, UKC and ADBA are MAJOR registries. For that matter, FCI is pretty major as well. Given that the AmBully is not recognized by anybody but their own breed club.. I wouldn't consider it to be "major".

I really have come to resent people who run around and call almost everything non-ADBA an AmBully nowadays. It has reached critical mass.
This dogs bloodlines aren't Ambully? I thought they were.

The ADBA wasn't a major registry when it formed in 1909 ... nor were the others when they formed. At the time that it formed and for almost 70 years thereafter, ALL the ADBA did was record pedigrees, sanction matches and publish a magazine. Not until 1976 did the ADBA draw up a breed standard and hold conformation events.

Yet, it was from these dogs that in 1936, the AKC accepted a small group of select bloodlines with specific genetic markers (no red nose accepted) into the registry that would eventually become the American Staffordshire Terrier (AST). Non-working dogs with only conformation classes offered. No other registry accepts those dogs as ASTs.

And so now, like many threads along this discussion ... it goes in circles. From the AKC AST and UKC APBT, a small group of breeders chose select bloodlines with specific genetic markers (heavier builds, large heads, mellow demeanor) and developed what has eventually become the AmBully. Non-working dogs with only conformation classes offered. No other registry accepts those dogs as AmBully.

The AmBully is still evolving and changing of course. Just as every other bully breed of dog once they were "accepted" into a registry.

The AmBully fad won't go away in our lifetimes, if ever. Why not let them have their registry and have their fun? It's either that or accept these dogs as APBT, which they clearly are not. Hell, IF ANYTHING other than AmBully and based on where they came from as stated by breed founders, they should be called AST. When looking at an AmBully I and others can clearly see AST influence ... APBT not so much.

I really have come to resent people who run around in denial concerning the AmBully.

If we are to accept AmBully as APBT ... then by genetic association we REALLY should accept AST, SBT, Bull Terrier, Boston Terrier and American Bulldogs (who am I forgetting?) as American Pit Bull Terriers ... main stream media and the general public does anyway.

This thread is about registries. That's where breed distinctions play the biggest role and within the context of registry standard and breed purpose ... I honestly don't think the Ambully is an APBT. Could it be an AST? ... long before it is an APBT IMO. But the FACT is, it is neither and it is a mix of both.
