So we had a friend pull a female APBT from his local shelter to test. She is doing awesome according to him and we are riding down to meet her today!!! She is one good looking blue, but we are more interested in her temperment and energy level. Hopefully our male (also a rescue) will get along with her OK. We have enjoyed the quiet around the house with just one dog here and life has been real laid back because of it. But he has been lonely and acting depressed since losing his dog friend here. He went to bed without us last night instead of hanging out with us on the couch watching TV! We live on 10 acres, but no fences... The other dog we had could go unleashed, but we always leash our bullie unless playing ball, fetch, or flirtpole time... so having 2 bullies is gonna be some added responsibilty for outside time. I am thinking of having a fence put up around the back area so I can let them run loose outside while we are out there with them.

If you're really planning on getting another dog, I would really plan on fencing in at least part of youracreage. Also there are tons of stickies in the training section on how to properly introduce your bully breeds and to do it rigt. (Proven...trust me I did it more recently with my new pup) also be prepared to havv to crate and rotate in the future. As long as you are all set for those responsibilities you will do fine=)

Because the other dog stayed put and was a little Yorkie who wouldn't leave my side.
Been through the crate and rotate with fostering. This dog was picked specifically on temperment to get along with our current. Based on the the guy who fostered the male we adopted. Hopefully it never comes to crating and rotating these two. Regardless, she is out of the kill shelter now and has a chance at a loving home. I hear you on the fence, I probably will get an estimate soon (I am talking about roughly 1.5 acres getting fenced). I would like to be able to relax out back and let them have some free roam time etc. while I am out with them. The introductions went well. She is here now. Defintely a rescue case. She had been bred who knows how many times, is mal-nurioushed, and not in to good a shape. Has huge potential and is sweet as can be. Disposition with my male has been good and vice versa. No food issues or other aggression issues that we have seen so far, and she is rather submissive. She was surrendered to a kill shelter because of "we can't afford to keep her". More like we can't breed her anymore. She was tested heartworm neg, which is a plus around here. Gotta get her to our vet though for a couple other issues. |

Thank you for rescuing her, I am sure she has had a rough life so far from the sound of it. Just keep in mind that you need to always supervise them and never leave them alone unattended. Dogs are dogs are dogs, and they can be best of friends for 5 years, 7 months and 21 days, but on day 22, they can get into it over a sun ray or falling leaf. Of course, I would also be sure to crate them when you are gone from home. Tons of stickys that will help you a lot, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

Yes, crating is what we do and they will be supervised all the time. Our dogs are never alone and if so, we crate them. Not new dog people here at all I have had German Sheps all my life. After our last GS died we decided to try adopting a bullie. The one we got is incredible and we have had him roughly a year. We also have fostered in the past and recently fostered a pup (that was not fun). So we had room in the house and hearts, plus crates and everything else to bring her in. So we'll see what happens from here...
She is a mouse. Slept in our bedroom in her crate. Wouldn't know she is even here. Follows you around the house and took right to the dog bed next to the couch. Lucky we had another for our big guy. I really feel bad for her, she just seems to have a broken spirit. Hard to describe. But she is loving the attention and gives it right back. |

Bad news first. She has pneumonia We noticed a cough, but she had had a bordetella shot, so thought it may have been that. Took her to the vet on the day after we got her. Our vet thought the same, and started her on some meds. By Wed she was not doing any better and actually was worse, So we got her in for a follow up and some x-rays. Vet showed us the fluid in her lungs and also she has an area of her heart that is enlarged. Vet is not sure about the heart and actually called us back and asked that we bring her back for an EKG, especially if the new meds don't help with the pneumonia.
She has started to improve after a couple days wrt to the pneumonia! So hopefully we can get her back in shape. We kind of wonder what would've happened to her in the shelter with pneumonia and if she would've even been adopted. She does wonderful on a leash and on walks. And her and my big bullie are getting along wonderfully. She has also started responding to her name, and is learning some routine and has learned to "sit" for her food, leashing, outside and inside etc. and she is soaking in lots of love cause everyone here really likes her. Forgive me for the cell phone pics. Have you ever seen a dog sit like this? And BTW, she has the poor pitiful me look down to perfection, she has suckered in lotsa people for a scratch on the head with that look |

And the new fence will be finished this week!!! We are fencing our whole back yard, which is roughly 1.5 acres - 700 feet of fence $$$ Our two are still getting along great. Neither will bolt when we take them outside, as both are so focused on their toys and us, they just stay with us in the yard wherever we are, leash or not. Regardless, the fence is going in to stop them from chasing the occasional squirrel or rabbit (can't help out the little lizard that lives under the porch though...he aint gonna last much longer), make it easier to take them out in the winter , plus to protect our neighbors dog up the road who runs loose and sometimes pays an unwelcome visit. We have found our girl is very reactive and occasionally aggressive with strange dogs. She has turned out to be a great dog though and we have become pretty attached to her now. I still cannot understand why someone dropped her at the shelter.
