Default Good or bad idea? (APBT show)
Is it a good or bad idea to bring Beau with me to the APBT show on Saturday??

He'll be in a crate and I know in the rules that any dog not being shown needs to be in the crate unless it's on the bathroom break. But I might be going to some state parks after I leave the show, and when I go to state parks I ALWAYS bring Beau, so it would make sense to bring him. But would that be okay?? I'll be bringing a 4 foot leash as well instead of his 6 foot leash and his crate will be padlocked shut. I'll be keeping him in the back of Explorer in his crate with the back door open, and we'll be parked in the shade.

Also when I was there last March, I saw a bunch of people walking around American Bullies and "Pet Bulls", I think I saw a couple of other breeds as well.

So I was wondering good idea or bad idea?

Depends on the dog, and his 'comfort' level in these situations. If he is cool with it, I'd go ahead wit it, if - in the past - he has shown signs off stress, I'd attend the dog sans Beau

Beau does great under pressure and he's not all about meeting other dogs, all he wants to do is sniff

In that case: go for it!

However, since you did post the question - what are your deep-down-buried-in-the-subconscience concerns, LOL?

I'm worried about him getting to close to an APBT and getting in a fight.....but I know I can keep him away, and I'm afraid of people looking down at me for bringing my Beagle, I get tore a new one every time I post a thread about Beau on another Pit Bull forum. So I'm worried about that if that makes sense.

Then hold your head high, and you and and Beau enjoy the day! APBT people really should think before they 'slam' another breed, geesh ...

Since you know to keep him at a safe distance from any other dog, regardless the type, you've got that covered.

Have fun!

Oh we shall

And it's not them slamming Beagles, just Beau....they make fun of him a lot because for some reason they don't like me.

I can pm you if you want I can tell you more about that.

Hell yeah! Lucy might like a hunting buddy. Those damn squirrels are far too numerous for my liking.

I know there are a bunch of people I want to see going, but don't think I can swing it.

Might just want to double check the rules about dogs on the show grounds. Many venues outright prohibit a non-entered dog from being on the grounds, and if your dog is a different breed than the show dogs, you will stand out! Otherwise, go for it and be responsible!

My girlfriend's agility dog was attacked by an off-leash lab at an agility trial on Sunday. The lab was not entered, the lab was not leashed, and the lab got kicked hard. The owner tried to scream at my friend, who then just let the owner have it. (Very, very, very out of character for my friend. However, fat lot of good it did. Her agility dog was walking around on three legs for a while. ICK.

Have fun at the state parks!

I've read and re-read the rules and I saw nothing about not being able to bring him, and when he's not by me on a VERY short leash, he'll be PADLOCKED in his crate hidden from other people's view, and someone asks....I can always say he's just along for the ride and my APBT is being shown...... it's a lie but it might work

I know a guy who shows his APBTs, and he always brings his beagle. His beagles always chills in his truck. He'll probably be there.

I shall keep an eye out for him!!!!! I'd LOVE to meet his Beagle, and I saw a couple of other types of dogs at the show back in March.

I know of someone who brings her chi to shows. As long as you're not walking him around all the time you should be fine, just keep him away from the ring and the other dogs.
