Default found a stray today
This afternoon my father in law knocks on my door and says i found this dog, do you know him. I walk chopper extensively through our neighborhood so he thought I might recognize him. Unfortunately I didn't now I'm kinda stuck here. I'm calling him Tank cuz hes pretty stocky and he's brindle and it kinda looks like camo. He seems very sweet and he's in good shape (well fed, not dehydrated) but hes very apprehensive around men. I put up fliers around the neighborhood but what do I do if an owner doesn't come forward? We already have 7 dogs (one of which is DA) so we neither need or can really handle another but I can't call animal control either because they are just gonna wait 3 day and put him down. They don't even consider adopting them out here.

I realize my worry is a bit premature but we already getting attached so i need a plan.

Have you gone to a vet and seen if he has a microchip?

This thread is useless without pictures - come on now - you must know this!!

I'd say you are doing good posting flyers and such. Maybe call the local animal services and let them know what you found in case someone is looking for him. After a few days, try to find him a good home.

Start calling and e-mailing rescue groups. There are quite a few in NC.

I'd also start calling local vets and e-mailing them pictures. If the dog is well taken care of you might get lucky there...it happened at our clinic a few times

I know where I live the local newspapers will let you place a free ad for like three or four days for a lost or found pet.

he doesn't seem to be. Chopper is picky about dogs she like (she doesn't like females or males that try to push her around) so i haven't introduced them but he has done well with our boxer. I didn't think it was a good idea to introduce him to the pack of husky's. Also he is very loving he follows me anywhere I go, loves to cuddle up on my lap although he is far more apprehensive of my husband and father in law ( but all dogs take to me faster than them). He is house broken so thats good. I think the chef at work will take him if an owner doesn't come forward. i just talked to him and he seemed kinda excited about it he had a male that died a few months back so i know he understands what hes getting into. I often wish I had a better idea of what I was getting in to when I adopted Chopper.
