Hello, i have been thinking of getting a American Staffordshire Terrier for a long time now and i think i have found the right dog. I found this 4month old puppy that their current owners cannot keep because they are moving. They have put this dog up for adoption for $150. What do you think, is this a fair adoption or do you think there might be something wrong with the dog? They said the dog is up to date with shots etc..
Should i ask anything specific about the dog? All this is happening tomorrow in the morning so any help would be very helpful. I am a first time dog owner if you cant tell yet ![]() Thanks. ![]() |

If the dog is up to date on shots and is spayed/neutered than I think that is a fair price on the dog. Spays/neuters can cost as much as the adoption fee they are asking! Make sure they can produce the paperwork from a licensed vet to prove that the dog really is current on all vaccinations. Cute pup! I'm sure some more members will chime in and post some stickys you should definitely take the time to read.

He's a cute pup, and the adoption price isn't too much. We paid $100 for Bella's adoption fee and she came spayed, rear dew claws removed, UTD on all shots, including rabies, and her first month of Heartgard. I'd take it a step further and ask for the name of their vet and his number, then call him specifically and get a recommendation from the vet as to whether they are good owners, and to back up their story. Usually, a vet can tell if the owners are really concerned with the pups well being or just trying to make a buck off of it. He is adorable, I love his face and markings!

Thanks i will make sure to do so. I fell in love right when i saw the picture. I will keep you updated as to what happens tomorrow. I greatly appreciate all of your inputs.
This is what the current owners have told me so far in the Emails: Socialized with children, other dogs, knows sit, speak, crate, comes when called. Loves to and is very well behaved in the car. Please LMK if you are interested. thank you. Yes, purebred. Price of 150.00 is firm, it's a very fair adoption fee. Our local shelter asks 250.00 for a puppy. Besides, he is a great pup, hate to part with him, reasons for rehoming are because of me not him. I want a good home, I have the fee low as I hope to place him this week and before I just don't have the heart to. So sorry but no, I just can't go lower with the fee. My husband actually wanted at least 250.00 but I am more concerned about a good home than the fee so 150.00 it is. |

Cute pup! I agree with everything said! Check the temperament and see what he can do. We always pick up the pup and do the cradle test, and just pick him up and see what the prey drive is. Even then I would say see how you two like each other. Even then with a pup, the personality still will be different once you get her home.

Well, assuming you can find a low cost spay/neuter clinic, that is at least $45 (and that is extreme least, your probably looking at more like $60 or more). Same for vaccinations, and he will need three puppy shots. Each shot can cost you $25.
They seem pretty firm on the price, but you can always say "Since he isn't vaccinated or neutered, I'll offer yout his much...." I'd probably offer $75, and if you really, really like the puppy after meeting him, $100 tops. Just keep in mind that you can go to the shelter, or find another puppy in the paper, that IS vaccinated and neutered, for the same cost. |

Just because he is supposedly purebred doesn't mean he is worth $150. I would explain how much the neutering and vaccinating would cost. If they are really as worried about him going to a good home they would give him to you for less than $50. I'd say look at the shelter before you absolutely commit to this pup.

This is what they said:
Im not sure what to do. Hi, puppies are sold unnuetered unless from a shelter. a shelter will nueter and charge u a adoption fee a minimum of 250.00 100 more than i am asking vaccinations r cheap at a low cost clinic. this is a 750 pup and i was giving him to u for only 150 and with no intense application or screening process. answer is no. |

Why hasn't a 4-month-old pup been vaccinated yet? He should've had at least 3 sets so far. Without him being vaccinated, he's highly susceptible to diseases like the parvovirus. And without them providing paperwork proof of his pedigree and vet records to prove he's been seen by a vet at some point, I wouldn't trust their words.

Why hasn't he been vaccinated? Parvo is deadly, and pups are extremely subjective to it. And what makes him a $750 pup? Did she breed him? I was thinking he was a rescue.... if she bred him, she should have papers to prove he is worth $750... and if he's worth that much, she should have already vaccinated him against Rabies, distemper and Parvo... I wouldn't want that expensive of a pup being subjective to those problems. I could see them not wanting to fork out the money for the neuter, but if the pup is worth that much money, they aren't going to allow him to roam around shot free, and possibly pick up Parvo. I'm kinda like Libby and Woot... I think I would look elsewhere. If she wants him to have a good home, and that's really what she's concerned with, she will put that before the $$.. and I would tell her that before I said no thank you!
