I pride myself in having more knowledge on animals than anyone I know, general knowledge mostly but that said. 1st time I ever came across anything about a "pitbull" and 1st ever experience was when I watch the movie White fang and it was the dog that beat White fang in the dog fighting ring. I just thought it was a dog with a strong bite, I think they mentioned locking jaws. But even then...I knew common sense that a dog that needs to be separated from another should and would not be aggressive to the separators or there would be a problem. I never believed the hype about Doberman's I actually wanted them from a very young age, German Shepards were my Idle I loved Rin-Tin-Tin growing up and anything that involved dogs in a good light. My favorite movie growing up was the original Homeward Bound with the Bull Terrier, I wanted one so bad, still do but Johnny hates the look so I will settle for my "pitbull Mix" and maybe one day talk him into it lol. So I have to say it was much later...probably when I was about 18 did I find out that they were supposed to be bad, never believed it but I think I might have seen a few news articles and thought "you have to be kidding me"

When my first pit bull Fester was about 8 weeks old, I had him and my youngest son in a shopping cart together when I went in the store I used to work at. A lady said in total shock, "PLEASE TELL ME THAT'S NOT WHAT I THINK THAT IS!!!" Apparantly the word from her was I was a bad mom for even having that dog that would eat my kids, and even worse for having them so close together! My mom still tells me that one day I'll see when Loki bites one of the kids. That's not something I'm worried about or I wouldn't have him! He is awesome with the kids and everyone else!

the first experience I ever had with a pit bull was with a stray dog in my old neighborhood. i was about 10 years old. the poor dear was clearly emaciated and looked like he didn't have a friend in the world. back then a dog was a dog to me, i didnt distinguish between breeds- i loved them all (as i do now- but now im very educated on breeds.) The annoying man next door kept telling me that I was going to get my face bitten off. But i didnt understand why in the world a dog would ever be mean. Silly me, but this dog was a lover.
I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and i offered it to him along with my bottle of water. He gobbled it up and drank all the water. I bet my parents wondered why I always asked two two sandwiches every day for about 4 months haha! We always ate together in the afternoons. It's like he knew when to come visit me. Then one day he never came back. I still get upset wondering what happened to him. I'd love to think that a family adopted him or he got picked up by a loving shelter and found a home. But unfortunately, thats not how it works most of the time. I named him Jelly-man. Miss you Jelly-man. |
