Where is a good place to buy hypoallergenic dog food? My dog ( Jack Russell) has the same problem with scratching and I tried going that route for her diet.
Also - I got her fleas under control by giving her one garlic and Brewers yeast pill a day. Fleas hate the smell of that stuff and it seems to keep the fleas at bay since
front line doesn't always last the entire month and is expensive too.

Hypoallergenic dog food will help those canines that suffer from dog food allergies. Allergy free dog food or dog food for skin allergies will help relieve your dog from all that scratching. If your canine has persistent itching, they most likely have fleas or are allergic to something in their diet. The most common dog food ingredients that can cause allergies in your dog are beef, milk, eggs, corn, soy and wheat.

The best diet for a dog is a high quality, meat based diet. Dogs are carnivores and require meat in their diet to keep their skin and coat healthy, and give them the energy they need in their daily lives. Remember that dogs can develop dog food allergies over time, so it may not be evident right away. The best way to determine if your canine needs hypoallergenic canine food or allergy free food is to eliminate all the possible allergens by putting your dog on a homemade diet containing foods that you have never feed them before.

This usually consists of a protein and a starch. An example is one part lamb, venison or rabbit, mixed with two parts rice or potatoes. During this trial period, nothing else can be fed to your dog like table scraps, biscuits, or heartworm pills. After up to twelve weeks of your dog sticking to this diet, put them back on their original food. If they start the scratching and itching, then you know your canine has dog food allergies and needs hypoallergenic canine food.
