John Galt is a fictional character in Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged (1957). Although he is not identified by name until the last third of the novel,
Well, yes. But who _is_ John Galt?

Did you guys see the news earlier?

Bryce Courtenay will be dead within months from stomach cancer

Now there's a guy who knows how to use words....

I saw him. He's very up-beat about it all. He seems happily accomplished.

It's made me quite contemplative. I think if I was coming to my end I would venture out west to Australia's heart and take the time to experience a day and night in solitude just to appreciate it all and prepare myself. Ending your life in hospital wouldn't do it for me. I hope I have a choice. :-((

The author told XXXXXXXXX he wanted to be buried in a cardboard box. ''And then they are going to plant a tree on top of it - no tombstones, no here lies the old bugger, nothing - just a beautiful tree is going to grow up.''

Not a bad idea. :-))

OP, James Hogg is a real Scottish poet but he died in 1835.

Can you explain the origin of the poem you quoted, please?

For what its worth, i recommend them.

Courtenay manages to string words together in a way which is both simple and compelling. There's very little artifice and very little superficiality in his books. He knows how to tell a story. He is a wordsmith of the highest order, IMO.

Translation:

You've done well, Colin.

You've shown us what lies behind the cloak of madness.

You've shown us your penis

And what thought processes results from taking psychedelic mushrooms

Etc... It's basically prosaically taking the piss out of Australia's "Leading Erotic Poet, Colin Leslie Dean".

Much more literally, so folks can read for themselves:

"Weel" = Well

"Ye've" = you have

"plestered" = "plastered" as in posted stuff to the internet in a way akin to plastering a wall

"a'" = all

"wa's" = walls, see above

"fae" = from

"b'low" = below

"yer" = your

"An'" = and

This is taking too long and I'm starting to get bored... Maybe someone else could take up the translation here... Or maybe I will get back to it later... are you going to finish it
