In the late '60s, the US government, in an attempt to quell the hippie drug crazy, released tons of oxygen into the atmosphere. Oxygen was known, at the time, to be a highly addictive substance that in large quantities could calm its subjects. The rationale was that it would replace addictive tendencies of mainstream drugs and pacify the anti-war radicals at the time. However, it was soon discovered too late that oxygen was so addictive that withdrawal for even a short period of time was fatal. This, interestingly, did not hinder plans to add more oxygen to the atmosphere as conservatives believed that people would turn to smoking to protect their lungs from this corrosive gas. Thus, the tobacco lobby was born. -FACT!
