Default Alien Vs. Predator Review
Well, I was kind of upset when I heard this movie was rated PG-13. It didn't totally ruin the movie though... just some of it. The rating seriously hurt it when humans were killed. Most human kills were off-screen. Hopefully an unrated DVD will make me happy about that part. It had some really cool parts, but Anderson really screwed a lot of things up. The characters for example had no personality and there was way too many of them to even keep track of. Freddy vs. Jason's human characters had more depth. Alien and Predator fights were pretty good. Aliens and Predators have greenish blood so they could do a lot more of that. See, the MPAA is only strict about red blood for some reason.

Another thing I didn't like was that the movie was just way too short. The plot just seemed so rushed. The movie is only 87 minutes long; which is not nearly enough time. The first half of the movie is just the set-up of these people getting into the underground pyramid and I thought it was quite boring. Bad writing there. The actual concept of it though is actually really good. Predators used ancient civilizations to build them pyramids to hunt Aliens in every 100 years. Once the action started, the movie did pick up a bit.

I think the worst part was the acting. Not only did these characters have no personalitys, but the actors were bad. Paul Anderson said he wanted "Good, but unknown actors". He only accomplished one of those things. The main character isn't even that good of an actress and again, no personality to the character.

Anderson did do a few things right though. He treated the Predators excellent. You can tell he was a huge fan of those films. The upgraded looks to the Aliens and Predators were cool as well. The special effects were excellent. Mainly because they used little CG for the Aliens and Predators. Most of it was actual guys in costumes. What was done CG though was hardly noticable. The ending was great, it leaves it open for what could be a very interesting sequel and if this one makes enough money; I'm sure we will see one. Overall though, a bit disapointing. Two of Sci-Fi's greatest characters finally meet in a movie only to have a rushed plot and horrid acting.

Story: B-
Acting: D
Direction: C
Visuals: A
Overall: C+
