Default Just bought a DSLR pop up flash bouncer (56K)
Thought someone might be interested in something like this, i've bought one recently and managed to use it a bit today, simple but effective piece of kit[thumbup]

Not really used a flash with my camera's before unless i had to - never been to keen on the results you get from it but i saw a few photographers who used flashes by 'bouncing' it off of the ceiling which helps with a few of these problems so i set about trying it on my 350D but obviously the pop-up flash cannot be aimed so it's not possible.

After that i started looking around to see if it was possible to buy something to change this and came across this on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pop-Up-Flash-Bouncer-for-DSLR-Softlite-SL-1_W0QQitemZ220313595621QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCamera_F lash_Accessories?hash=item220313595621&_trksid=p39 11.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A 1|240%3A1308

Took a few shots today in a dark corner of my bedroom, these are untouched and starts with a comparison picture with a direct flash, quite happy with the results :

I didn't even know these were made! Very nice if someone has no option but using the built in flash!

Also, nice pics

Wow, I didn't know these were made either.

This would be a good option for me, seeing as I don't have the money to purchase a flash gun at the moment.

Awesome! I just tested the concept using a makeup mirror. Off to the hardware store tomorrow, to make one. :-)

you've probably got the right to idea to make one, i'll admit this one isn't exactly perfect, you can rotate the mirror to bounce sideways from walls but in a few of the shots above you get a small amount of direct flash in the top corner where it doesn't completely cover the flash unit - nothing really to worry about though.

I had previously been messing about with mirrors and paper to do this as a test so i went out looking to see if there was something i could buy which would be a litle more permanent and found this[yes]

I have used this for a while now...

it has its uses and gives good results when your not trying to bounce too far, but the limited power of the pop up flash will come evident soon. its not often that I use flash though but certainly helps when I do.

Ahh I looked into this but I figured it was a bit too expensive. I think the one Drakemoor posted is probably better value in terms of useage and experimenting especially with the rotation.

For those that would like a softer flash rather than bouncing the flash. Ebay sell a pop up flash diffuser. You could probably make yourself one with some frosted card.

diffuser won't exactly work the same way with a bounce flash. it will more like soften shadows.

bouncing the pop up flash isnt something new but nice to see something on ebay for cheap. problem is most of the time pop up flash will lack the power to be used as a decent bounce flash and also some dslr's use strobe as AF assist light. but anyways anything is better then direct light from a pop up flash [rofl]
