Nah not really bothered not having lenses atm, I can wait a couple of days, been hard trying to find places with them in stock and at a decent price since all prices have got quite abit & alot of places are not restocking till next month.

As for lens selection, the 16-85mm is proberly the best choice of the standard lenses.

50mm F1.8 good sharp prime and cheap to, well was till the prices went up.

SB 900 flash with having the FL-50 on my Olympus couldn't really live without one now, so went for the best & decided to get this over the 70-300mm VR as i don't use telephoto all that often.

I've proberly bought this new setup at the wrong time, if i bought what i got say couple of months ago could have proberly saved myself a few hundred quid.

Why did you go for the SB900, if you're just looking for a basic flash for everyday situations and don't do studio work, the SB900 is a big waste of money. Unless you require the extra speed the battery pack gives you or using it constantly for a day and unable to charge, the battery pack isn't required. I can shoot 300 raw images over the space of 3 hours and the battery indicator doesn't drop a bar at all.

As for lenses chooses, love the 50mm f1.8, but with the extra money saved from just buying the sb600 and not buying the battery pack, i would have looked to see if i could have gotten a good deal on the 70-200mm f2.8 VR Nikkor. Depends how much you want the wide though.

I use the D300 with a 50mm f1.4 + 70-200mm Sigma mk2. Love both lenses but really wish i had spent the extra getting the Nikkor version of the 70-200mm.

edit: Why did you go for the D300 over the D90?

Why i choose the D300 over the D90

100% viewfinder
Felt good in the hand, most important, even better with grip
Great battery grip
Better build
Longer lasting shutter count
8fps & 51 point 3D tracking if i ever need it.
Better AF system
Fixes CA
AF fine tuning so if a lens either suffers from front or back focus issuses, i can sort it out no problem without sending the camera to Nikon, so no worries using Sigma Lenses.
Don't need Video
Weather sealed if i ever get lenses to go with it.

Why SB900

I do alot of shooting for family & freinds so i decided to get the best Nikon offered.
And not regretted it one bit as it's an excellent flash i post some samples when i get chance.

As for the 70-200mm VR F2.8 i don't really shoot all that much at the long end ,so will stick to my guns and get the 70-300mm VR as this will get the job done for what i'll use it for.

As for Wide Angle proberly go for the Tokina 11-16mm F2.8.

lol, very well answered. Do you have a flickr account?

My next purchase was going to be the 300mm f2.8 prime from Nikon, but gotta learn to drive first .

If i was in your position, i would have been tempted to go for the D90 + better lenses but you've made some very good choices. One thing i am wanting to do when i sort out a new job is replace my Sigma stuff for Nikkor stuff.

Yeah have a Flickr account but forgot my password, not used it in a while and it mostly early stuff on it.

Here a quick shot using the SB900 gotta do alot of reading up on this flash, as it way more advanced than my Olympus FL-50 was.

16-85mm VR ISO 100 SB900 manual set GN to 24

My neice

The 16-85mm is a good lens ok it's not a fast one but how many times would you use a standard zoom at F2.8? odd wedding maybe were a flash isn't allowed.

For low light shots without a flash i would rather use a prime the 50mm F1.8 is pretty long on the DX format so i will proberly invest more in a 24mm F2.0 aswell.

But if i was into alot of nature or sports action shots then i would go for a fast telephoto lens as which im not mostly Protraits and Landscape stuff, hence why the 70-300mm VR will do the job nicely for me for any telephoto pics.

I more intrested in getting a good wide angle lens such as the Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 even though it does suffer from abit of CA it not a problem on the D300 as it sort's it out, but this lens is sharp.

The D90 is a good camera better ISO slightly than my D300 but the D300 has alot more useful things the D90 doesn't hence why i choose it.
