Default Reverse Draft.
Why is the WAFL Reverse Draft held so long after the National Drafts? ie. In late January/early February and close to the start of the new season.

For the sake of recruiting purposes for those WAFL Clubs involved in the Reverse Draft, wouldn't it be more logical to hold it as soon as possible after the National Draft as they do in South Australia.

It is generally held later so that the WAFL clubs get an opportunity to attend a few training sessions to assess the players they would like to select in the draft.

didn't realise the WAFL clubs actually got a say in who they will get in the reverse draft.....Koby Stevens came to EF when EF had a plethora of midfielders locally and AFL listed guys......doesn't make sense EF requesting another midfield type....surely WCE and Freo request which club would be the most suitable one for their respective draftees...

I'm with you freez.

I was told that it was the dorkers and galahs who decide where their players are allocated.

The WAFL Clubs can only suggest.

the wafl clubs choose who they want and have done so for a while i think. its a tricky one though. i remember my mob choosing silvagni and suban, and expecting to get games out of them, especially considering silvagni was rookie listed, and they have hardly played a game and probably never will.

8.2 THE ALLOCATION PROCESS

8.2.1 The AFL Clubs will provide any information about interstate players required by the WAFL Clubs. Details of possible playing position and any other relevant details should be made clear.

8.2.2 WAFL Clubs will submit to the WAFL Football Operations Manager their Clubs choice list in preferential order at a date determined by the WAFL Football Operations Manager.

8.2.3 The players will be allocated with the lowest finishing WAFL team from the previous season having the first option with all others following in reverse premiership ladder order.

8.2.4 The final allocation will be done in consultation with the AFL Clubs and the WAFL Clubs.

8.2.5 If an interstate player is delisted by one WA AFL Club and then drafted by the other WA AFL Club before the next season, the player shall remain at the WAFL Club to which he was originally allocated. He shall not form a part of the new pool of available players, and the Club concerned would still have a pick from the new Interstate players should they qualify for such a pick.

8.2.6 If an interstate player is delisted by one WA AFL Club and after a break returns to play for one or other of the AFL Clubs in this State then that player would play for his original WAFL Club but in this case the WAFL Club would forfeit its selection in the allocation process.
