You're obviously not familar with Americal rural culture. I was around 14 when I was bought my first gun. It is typical for students to skip school the first day of deer season to go hunting. If this mother failed anywhere (and she probably did), it was in the area where she allowed her son to become so psychologically damaged that he wanted to kill everyone and himself.
