I don't think deciding to change to a different piece of hardware because your current manufacturer doesn't meet your needs amounts to anything more than a pragmatic decision, albeit one expressed like a little bitch.

If you're an iPhone fan and currently seeing out the end of a contract with the 3GS then it's a decent upgrade but for anyone who can afford to buy their phones outright its a bit of a let down. The Galaxy S2 is a brilliant phone but its bordering on a tablet pc with the size of it, until they can reduce the size considerably I'll be sticking with the iPhone, and after past experiences with Samsung mobiles I don't think the build quality is up to much either.

Cough....bullshit.....cough.

Why do people talk so much rubbish for effect. I've just taken a pic of my iPhone 4 on top of my SGS2....a WHOPPING 8mm or so bigger on each direction.

Dont get so hissy about it pal, either get your eyes tested or take another look at the frikin photo you've posted, 8mm or 80mm it doesn't really matter, in comparison to the iPhone that thing is a bloody brick! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/wink1.gif

It's really not. You're talking out of your bottom. It feels big for the first day or two but after that it's not something you notice.

bushomeworkk 05-10-2011 07:42 PM

I'm on the HD2,what's it's android counterpart/equivalent/competitor?
BTW:played around with the SE Arc and Xperia Play, really cool phones IMO but I guess not to your liking Acupuncture.http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/unsure1.gif

Isn't the Galaxy S2 lighter as well ?

I'd rather have a brick made of styrofoam than a marginally smaller one made of lead... cuz you know, that extra 21g of weight the iPhone 4 sports is outrageous!!! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/wacko1.gif

And damn, the 4S weighs 24g more, DEPLETED URANIUM!!! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/blink1.gif

I'm a fan of both Apple and Google, but we all know the only reason they put faster processors into Google hardware is to cope with the shitty coding in Android/Market slowing everything down... iOS is seriously well optimised to run with the hardware it's got, even if it is slower, it still runs far faster than any android device out there.

Big deal, new android phones with faster processors to cope with the OS overhead, doesn't mean you can do anything with the extra processing power, it's already in use.

Care to back that up with numbers? Of course iOS is "well optimized." They've had a total of 5 hardware models over 4 years, and not all models are supported by every release. When you have such a limited pool of hardware to "optimize for" there's much less skill necessary in coding for it. Plus, it's a lot easier to control performance when you lock down everything equivalent to putting a kitchen faucet on a large damn. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/wink1.gif

HTC Hero , original samsung galaxy i think are 2 android equivalents

I'd say the HTC Desire/Nexus One were more equal to the HD2.

The Hero had the lowly Qualcomm MSM7200 that the G1 launched with and the Samsung Galaxy S outperforms the HD2 with it's ARM Cortex-A8 processor and PowerVR SGX540 GPU.

The HD2 shares the same CPU and GPU as the Nexus One and Desire and I think the HTC Evo does too..

Anfester 05-10-2011 08:32 PM

on time line then the galaxy S was out at the same time as the desire (well 1 month apart) may>june 2010 - didnt realise the HD2 wasnt sold in the US till march 2010 (was 5 months earlier in the UK) - thought it was a 2009 phone - so that would be the match up

HTC HD2 - HTC Desire - Samsung Galaxy S

edit:

is the adreno gfx in HTC, AMD based ?

vasyasvc 05-10-2011 08:38 PM

I was relieved to see they didn't touch the screen size. I don't want a bigger screen. I have a tablet for that if need be. The 4S basically looks to me like an iPad 2 in a smaller form factor with a better camera. For $300 (32GB), sounds like a decent upgrade to me.

Acu, get a different case on a 4S...problem solved http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gif. I didn't realize people were so into the look of their phones. /shrugs.

All my developer friends are laughing at your post.

Also at Apple's claim that you need an A5 processor to run a CLOUD sourced voice commands.

One of these days people will get it. It is no good having the fastest hardware if you do not have the quality app support or the battery life to run it. When I buy an iPhone I know there will be decent apps ( I have over 25gb downloaded over the years ) The decent games will always come out first, and are guaranteed to run ( and well ) for a good few years even with the newest ones, and the battery will last well enough to take advantage of it.

Android phones keep boosting the specs, but all that power is going to waste. I have taken my phone away of the weekend, made a few calls, played a few games, and sent some texts and still come out of the other end with battery life to spare, there is no Android out there that can compete in that respect. There is always an "app for that" with iPhone the same cannot be said about Android.
