my galaxy s does what i want and its cheaper on contract that the iphone was - could have got either.

If I had no previous phone and needed something new today, I'd go with Android. I bought into iOS when the first iPhone came out because there was nothing else better. Android was available, but the OS lacked features I needed such as Exchange support. Now I'm "stuck" with iOS because of my library of apps. I'm not willing to give those up.

Thankfully, iOS has come a long way in the last 2 years so I don't feel like I am missing anything with Android. Also, I am happy with the hardware Apple is releasing. I'd probably have more fun tinkering with Android, but then again maybe not.

Android Market is not the same market that some of you seem to think it was. It almost has 300,000 apps, it will most likely surpass the Apple App store by early next year. Not only that, more than half of those listed apps are free.

Sure there's a lot of turd apps, but Apple is just as guilty for that. Both sides have excellent apps nowadays that can pretty much do anything you need your phone to do, along with the useless apps.

As for battery life, Android allows you to customize your phone to lower battery consumption. My phone (Galaxy S) lasts me 2 full days with normal usage, I hardly think that's unreasonable seeing as my phone is more powerful than my desktop back in 2002.

I don't, but I use custom cooked ROMs that are optimized usually and I practice battery saving habits (low brightness, GPS/Wifi/BT off unless I need to use it, etc.)

As an iPad and an Android phone user, I can safely say I was actually disappointed with the AppStore after coming from Android. I really can't understand the buzz that the Appstore gets. I can do far far more with my Android phone, for next to nothing, compared to the £30-40 I would need to spend on my ipad to do the same. App Quality being the same.

A fair more apps on the AppStore are also becoming micro transactions, meaning alot more ads in them, something I felt before Appstore had over the Android store.

i use a stock rom (gasp i am a heathen) but likewise , keep all the battery sapping stuff off unless i need it - although if i need power for a movie or 2 i have a `fat back` 3500MaH battery ;)

He could have made that video over a year ago. That's how long Android has had voice controls.

Not crap, and yes my old man has a HTC Desire HD. The damn thing barely lasts a day with low usuage. The iPhone has WAY more quality games, all the big ones come to it first. As to battery, I don't have to fook about with apps trying to "tweak" buy turning stuff off. Then add in the miriad of configurations, so you don't know if the game will work well with your device.

So are you telling me all the latest games come out on Android at the same time as iPhone and all the latest apps? Are you saying you can make your Android last up tp 4 days without turning crap off or tweaking? Are you saying you can guarantee no matter which Android Joe Bloggs buys he is guaranteed all apps and games work well with his phone? Absolutely no virus on iPhone ( unless jailbreak ) , can you say the same with Android? Is your phone outdated inside 3 months?

You need to remember, this is a geek forum. People here are willing to tweak and fiddle to get the most out of their device. The majority of people who buy phones just want them to work, and well. Android is a good device, but it is no iPhone.

In response to a few replies about my post, i've worked with several android phones, cooked roms, apps for battery life and overclocking etc... never had as smooth an experience as i've had with my iphone 4. Quality OS, quality apps, quality phone... android just screams BETA constantly... gets boring when **** is slow or doesn't work/crashes when you need it most... I got sick of having to "workaround" problems to get my phone to do **** that I could do with the iphone out of the box.

Then your old man has an issue with his phone. I have the Desire and it lasts 2-3 days with nothing turned off and heavy usage. My mate has the DesireHD with the same life of battery.

I had the iPhone 3G, and have I seen much difference with the later models?....no, other than adding things that other phones have had for years (facetime (LOL) anyone?). Thing is, I cna access everything, flash, you name it.

I don't understand this statement. There are loads of varieties of Android available, from bog standard android and simple interfaces to all the bells and whistles. iPhone you just have iPhone, which is a locked down, low customisable piece of kit.

Aren't most Android phones "locked" as well? I was under the impression you had to load a custom ROM to get the most out of an Android device if you wanted to customize it? Sure an iPhone is locked down from the factory, but when I had my iPhone 2g, it was jailbroken and customized to hell. It had to be though if I wanted any useful features at the time. [rofl]
