Since when is oriental a "slur"?
imo oriental isn't so much a slur as it is a misnomer. in the same way native american were called indian. people stop using it because there are now more accurate description, like east asian, south asian etc.

another example is Cathay being used to descript China, when it fact it refers to another country neighbouring China that no longer exist... they are inaccurate from a historic point of view.

I know a black guy. Hes not from Africa and his family hasn't been anywhere near that continent for generations. He considers himself american, and takes no offense to anyone calling him "Colored", "Black", or "Negro".

Words only have power if you give them the ability. People get offended about "racist" terms because they have nothing better to do with their time.

Words arn't racist, people are.

Because a parent should decide what films their child sees...not a governing body.
Hahaha wow, what a stupid post. The law tells you and your children what to do on so many occasions... how is this any different?

Clearly sick and twisted individuals that should never have been allowed to carry on for so long. In clear cut cases like this then the offenders should be castrated as part of the punishment.

The only people who would find it offensive are over-sensitive and over-politically-correct westerners, not oriental people themselves.

I say Oriental all the time.

You can't really say Asian because that consists of all colors other than black. India, Middle East, Russia and then China. All those countries are in Asia, but consist of dramatically different looking people.
Then say you call someone Chinese, they'll get offensive if they are actually Japanese. Some goes for the rest of the nations.

Oriental is a little more specific. The group of Asians who all look the same and make up countries like China, Vietnam, Japan, etc. The countries on the Pacific side.

Hey thanks for providing this anecdotal evidence. Because you've made a compelling argument, I think it will be OK if I start calling all of the black people I know "negro." I will do that and report back next week.

Go for it. The ones that get offended are probably racists.

Why do Americans allow you to take children into R rated movies anyway?

Because a parent should decide what films their child sees...not a governing body.

Do you have to PROVE you're the parent, or is it like asking an older teen to buy your booze and cigs from the offy?
