Well to get to their level of experience they probably spent 50 times just doing it NOT in front of cliffs in which they can fly into if they blink at a wrong time.

Once you have a lot of experience and know how to maneuver yourself, there is very little that can go wrong.

I wouldn't say that... there is a lot that can go wrong. Unexpected wind sheer, slight misjudgment of terrain. With experience you can minimize risk, but the risk is still real. I don't think there are too many base jumpers out there that don't know someone close that's been seriously injured or died from their activities.

I've got to agree with 3dfx though, as a fell walker / climber myself I would be pretty pissed off if I was left to rot because of someone who had done that. Though people could of course say I shouldnt be climbing up mountains either as there's a risk involved too lol

from the amount of times the SAR helicopter takes off from here I would say that the hill climbers are a bigger menace (because they are so fookin stupid that they dont prepare) than people who do "sky/rock diving"

ive heard it take off and land 4 times today

As a former "thrill seeker", I would absolutely love to do that. While I was in the military I did countless things like that. Parachuting, Hang Gliding, Bungie jumping, you name it, I probably did it at least once, twice if I liked it. It's too bad I'm too old to do that now, although I did take my daughter hang gliding last year.

Besides which, there's a bit of a difference from trying to climb up a mountain with a certain amount of risk, to throwing yourself off the top of a big mo-fo mountain pretending you can fly and whilst doing it saying to yourself "what the hell, I'll throw in a couple of roley poleys while Im at it, rock on and yippe ki ay you biatch!!!!! There's a bit of difference from preparing for a jump and using the correct equipment for it by an experienced person with a certain degree of risk and wandering in the hills without being properly equiped or knowing what you're doing and whilst doing it saying to yourself "what the hell, who needs extra clothing, food and a decent pair of tramping boots, it's only a walk in the country".

Bit cynical, as ill prepared tourists getting into trouble tramping down here is a real hassle for the Search and Rescue" people, whereas the extreme sports people are generally well aware of the hazards and are prepared for them.
