Usually when I hear the words 'locked in' it's a positive thing. Not this time. Right now I feel like I'm locked in using my niblick around the greens. And not in a good way. I feel like I am constantly trying to use the club for a bump and run type of shot, even when the lie or layout doesn't call for it. I also feel like it is hurting my game. I execute the shot well for the most part, but I feel like it is stifling my short game. I almost feel like it has made me lazy. I don't really consider hitting any other shot, even when it is my best interest. It is almost to the point where I'm going to buy a 49 degree or a 50 degree wedge just to take it out of my bag. Anyone else deal with this? Have you had to adjust your bag set up in order to continue to improve?

Thanks for the insight guys. I know it might seem picky, but for every time it works beautifully, there is another when I leave myself with a 35 foot par putt because I hit the wrong type of shot that had no chance of succeeding. I just feel like I've somewhat plateaued in my game and I can somewhat see where the issue is, at least around the green.

I don't really depend on or "go to" any single club for anything around the greens.
I'll chip with anything from a 2-iron to a wedge depending on what I'm trying to do or what the conditions are. That said, in the majority of instances I tend to automatically reach for an 8-iron as my stock "bump and run" club, but that's only when that type of shot is called for. I see the pro's using a wedge for everything and to a certain extent I can understand why since they generally play extremely fast greens, but I like the variety of using different clubs for different situations and I think it keeps me sharper and keeps me thinking creatively which I prefer over any sort of "automatic" thing. |

Chipping is a stronger part of my game, I find practicing it funner than any other part of the game. I can relate to what you are saying if I imagined trying to only use my 50*. I will use clubs from 8-sw and all have slightly different results. Somewhere on this site is a flight to roll ratio for the different clubs. Now for the greenside chips I feel like it is just a matter of picking the right club, no matter where the pin is. |

Would love to see that. Look for tbox's post on the second or third page. Thanks Kellybo and Tbox for this one. |

I am starting to get locked in with putting from off the green from the fringe and it is just not working. I can't judge speed or break very well and I am just making stupid shots with it. |
