I used to do boxing, gym, motorbike riding, go karting, fishing, hunting & play with fast cars..
Alhamdulillah I now spend my time more productively & these days my past hobbies are now something of less interest & only do gym now and fishing/hunting.. My biggest hobby is Islam, I do Arabic classes everyday & practice reciting Quran daily, watch lectures on YouTube also ![]() It also makes me wonder why Muslims are learning languages like Turkish instead of Arabic?? |

As salamu alaikum,
Physical hobbies... I love sports, like football (soccer), cricket and I like some athletics too. Tennis, squash, badminton... I love sports ![]() ![]() Intellectual hobbies... learning about other cultures, religions, places, people, etc. I'm almost fluent in Spanish which I have mostly taught myself, with the help of a few other people ma sha Allah. I hope to learn a couple of other languages fluently in the future: French, Arabic, and if my husband and his family in the future speak a foreign language as their mother tongue, I hope to learn that language too, insha'Allah. I'm interested in Italian, too. I know that being fluent in Arabic isn't fardh in Islam obviously, but I would like to learn enough to be able to hold a good conversation with an Arab person, but regarding the Arabic my main wish is to be able to read it (and then write it) fluently, without the help of transliteration insha'Allah. Mind you, the transliteration is helping me pick up a few words and some of the basic grammar rules as I read the Qur'an. ![]() I like to read the Qur'an too - that's a hobby that I like to do most nights. I have Abdullah Yusuf Ali's latest translation, with the Arabic text and transliteration on the side. One of my New Years resolutions was to go to the mosque most weekends - I'm hoping to go to it today, actually, insha'Allah. ![]() |

donor meat? what is that? Six kebabs were found to include pork when it had not been declared as an ingredient. Two of the six were described as Halal - food or drink permitted for Muslims, which must not contain pork. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7852168.stm OK, sorry for going off-topic. My (secular) hobbies are weightlifting (trying to get into olympic lifting), Spanish language, computer programming, juggling, playing with my nephew. |

This used to be a very tricky question for me. ![]() I liked the way brothr pointed out the meaning of hobby in here. It is one's spare time activity, a sideline job and not the fundamental goings on in someone's life, as the OP said. By this definition we can't say doing Tajweed, learning Arabic language, recitation, or doing the translation of Quran, is my hobby as they are not the sideline but the main entries which eventually coalesced to type life. Insha Allah. @brother Maripat, I don't think, someone can reckon hobbies as time wasting, as long as they are fruitful and intentions dependent as we human beings need transition but that must be good moves. Wallahu A'lam. |

I've had a number of hobbies. Sometimes I take them up again sometimes I don't depending on time constraints.
My recent ones are photography and yoga and swimming. Yoga has been put on hold until I can find a womans only class again. These days photography takes up alot of my time. I love taking pictures of flowers and landscapes and also manipulating the images in photoshop. I'm reallly keen on HDR photography these days but unfortunatly I dont have a camera to take these kind of pics so I spend my time learning how - so I'm able to go into the deep end when I upgrade. I love walking and go for the longest walks and long drives through the country (unfortunately I've not been able to do this for long time) I also love to travel but this is more dependent on money than time. ... If I can find a cheap holiday, I will definitly make the time ![]() |
