Thanks for all your responses. This made the thread a very interesting read. Personally, the dark colored dogs will always be my favorite since they tend to highlight the hard qualities of the dog. A lighter colored dog tends to remind me too much of poodles and other suburban dogs, but that is just my opinion. I love them all and working ability>temperament>color in that order.

I like dark colored dogs as well, though, I'd love to own a buckskin or some light colored APBT like that someday.

I love the blues, obviously. After my Weimaraner passed I told myself I'd stear clear due to the skin problems she had but I just couldn't resist when I laid eyes on Luna's brother. He had the perfect temperment and such a great dog. I got in contact with the breeder as soon as I could and ended up with exactly what I wanted.

On Luna? She has bumps on her chin. The vet told me last week when we had her in to be spayed that she thought it was allergies. Her brother and sister also have chin bumps so I'm doubting the allergy thing.
My Weim had bumpy scabs from the back of her neck to the base of her spine. We spent thousands of dollars trying to cure her, poor girl (RIP).

Poor Weim! I looked into a Weim before we got our dogs but the hubby didn't like them because they all look alike. I liked them, but...

Ike gets bumps here and there on his jowels/chin. Vet thinks it is caused by bacteria from sneaking a drink out of the toilet when the kids forget to close the door. We just wipe them with cotton balls and Witch Hazel and they go away pretty fast.

Other than the old AB lines, I tend to avoid white dogs because so many are deaf and I need a dog that can hear me rant so I think at least someone cares about my opinions.

Actually there is a type of AB's called Southern Whites that are obviously white and tend to be quite healthy... no deafness issues. Even newer lines of AB's that are mostly or all white don't have issues with deafness.

Deafness of white dogs is more common in collies or other herding breeds and I think in Boxers as well.

Color doesn't matter. The only time it comes into play is when people breed solely for color. When doing so, you throw every other genetic consideration out the window and soon end up with a walking genetic nightmare with a coat color that people seem to want to pay you big bucks for.

I chose amstaff not because of color, but because I CANNOT freaking stand to look at a conformationally incorrect dog. It drives me insane. It's not that I don't love em, my b/f's dog now has horrific knees and I love him to death, but it just is like a weird OCD tick that goes off in my head: "his knees aren't right, his knees aren't right..."

Anywho... I am partial to brindles. Seal is my second favorite color. Red is a pretty nice color, especially mahogany, but they've got to have the dark nose or they look too fleshy.

I don't recall OFRNs to be coveted anymore than any other notable bloodline. I think I know of this dogman but I believe it was the opposite because I've read of a notable breeder that would cull all red, white, tan, and any other light colored apbt because they are supposed to lack intensity. I'm not sure if there is any merit into this but there have been more gr. ch's that were black than any other color. There are also more ch's in black than any other color. Also gr. ch. adam's zebo rom is voted in the bulldog hall of fame and is considered one of the best bulldogs. Stepp's Angus is also considered champion of champions and plumber's alligator is considered the best catch weight apbt to ever cross the scratch line. Also the breeder of merit, Earl Tudor, considered black jack to be the best dog he ever saw and his son black jack jr. killed all 9 of his opponents.

I found a great breeding, of course. I'm just not ready for another dog, cost wise and house wise for another year or so. Plus I want to put that year to good use going to shows and events, meeting people and looking at dogs and bloodlines.

The first thing I liked about Lucy was that she's black. I'd never seen a black pit bull before I got her, although now I see them all the time. Guess I wasn't looking hard enough.
