Need advice ASAP

A friend just called me and told me someone is selling a 1 month old pit bull. Apparently the pup is already on hard food at 1 month. I feel like i need to some how save it. He also said he only drank from his mom for 3 weeks and he just put him on hard food. Should i save him? i feel like i need to but i need advice.Apparently the person will even drop him off at my door. I just dont know what to think but again i feel like i need to save this pup.

Do you have the time, money, and space for a puppy? My first reaction would be yes but only if you can provide what it needs. You have to think about down the road, will you keep it, do you have to find it a home, if you can't find a home right away will it be an issue, etc. The pup obviously needs a lot of attention....

How much do they want for the pup?

0ffer him $30!

Bounce 03-17-2010 06:43 AM

I didn't realize they wanted money for the dog (missed the selling part).... I would agree with Laced...They obviously need/want to get rid of the pup, see what you can do about the price.

Taking care of a four week old puppy is a lot of work. We got both jezebel and pandora at four weeks. They cannot be by themselves all day, they need to be fed a few times a day, plus you need to teach them what they would learn from their litter such as bit inhibition. If you have the time, it can be done but you need someone at home and a lot of patience.

irridgita 03-17-2010 06:45 AM

if you can handle that young of a pup and get them down on the price i would say go for it

VIDEOHITE 03-17-2010 07:16 AM

That pup does need saving if it's only 4 months old, on hard food and about to be kicked out the door so to speak... It still needs its momma! If you have the resources for a puppy, I think you should take it even if you just kind of foster it for a while. It all depends on your situation. I agree with the other posters who said try to lower the price... If they just want rid of the puppy they'll probably give it to you for less than $100 after a bit of negotiating. Good luck!

Nothatspecial 03-17-2010 07:24 AM

Are they just getting rid of the pup or are they getting rid of the mother also? If they are getting rid of both is there any way you could foster both of them so the puppyn will still be able to learn the lesson the puupy needs from its mother?

Also is there any recuse near you that could help out?

Actually they are just getting rid of the pup. His uncle apparently owns the mother and she's getting or just has been spayed. As far as a rescue, there is but i would not want to put him in there. I have wanted to get another pup but we were going to wait abit till then but i guess im getting one now.http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/wink.png i seriously dont want this pup ending up in the wrong hands and if im capable of being able to raise him then i should do it. This person advertised him on craigslist even. im getting a pup sooner than later and im willing to do what it takes to give him a healthy, safe and happy life.http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Do you know the reason they want 2 sell the pup so quickly? Where are the other pups?
What else do you know about the pup & the parents? I guess it's hard 2 get info. if you don't know them. But, if possible, I would still ask lots of ?'s.

Since you have the time for him & you want him, then I would do it.

Honestly im not sure if he just wants to make a quick buck but i really dont want to ask him questions in that way because if i do who's to say whats going to happen with the pup. He has the father and the mother his uncle owns. He's giving me pics of the mother tomorrow. Ive asked him other questions but im doing it in such a way to where im not scaring him off and i can still get information.

You might want to also check you local laws because it might be illegal to sell or buy a pup that young. I know some states the pup has to be at least seven weeks old.

Uzezqelj 03-17-2010 08:21 AM

I have seen pups completely weaned off mom at 4 weeks old, but this was caused by the momma dog's STARVING condition. Weaning typically STARTS at 5 weeks. I'd definately try to get him out of those people's hands before he goes into another set of irresponsible hands.
I would also try to reason a bit with the "owners" on the price. Down here, you can get a fully vetted dog (or puppy) from the SPCA for $65 including spay/neuter and county license. Hopefully they will see the fact that this pup already needs to see a vet and will for the next few months, so maybe they'll come down a bit more.
If they won't, ask if they are ok with a spay/neuter certificate for the mother dog to be spayed. These can be purchased online at FriendsOfAnimals.org for $90 for a female dog spay. There is a list of participating vets on the site for you to check before you were to purchase to ensure there is one near the "owners".
If there aren't any in your area, ask if you can prepay the spay at their veterinarian or local SPCA. That way you know your $ is going for a good cause.

Donadoni1809 03-17-2010 08:23 AM

Ive asked him other questions but im doing it in such a way to where im not scaring him off and i can still get information. Yeah, that's probably best. Since you don't know them, you don't want 2 come across as "grilling" them- then like you said, you might not get the pup.
I really hope you do get him, because you would be able 2 give him everything he needs & he would be a happy healthy boy. I wish you all the Best & hopefully he will be home w/ you soon.

EzekelEnzino 03-17-2010 08:35 AM

Just my thoughts you can not save every puppy that needs saved and if you do not get this puppy. Once you are ready for a puppy you can easily find one that needs saved so do not let your heart take over I know it is hard to do but only get the puppy if it is because you are ready for the puppy not because you feel sorry for it. not only that but you are putting money into this persons Pocket and for what ??? at 4 weeks not a lot has been invested. sounds like someone looking to make a dollar so I would be willing to bet in a year possibly less this person will have more puppies that need saved

Actually with the mother his uncle owns and they arent selling her and they have either spayed her or going too but as far as the pup in our area they do free spay/neuter and microchipping to any pit bull/pit bull mix. What i have got from him though is he will pay half of the first vet visit and anything the pup might need during that visit and have that written in the contract and he's willing to give me the pup for $70.
