It's come up a lot lately, and there still seems to be a lot of misunderstanding as to what the Theory of Evolution is, and how it has been observed and proven to be true.
This video, which I urge everyone to watch, goes through the hypothesis behind evolution, and all of the evidence that has been amounted in the 150+ years since Darwin first proposed the idea. Some really interesting stuff in here. Like, did you know that humans have the genes to produce yolk in their eggs? Obviously they're redundant genes, but the fact that they are there is strong evidence of evolution. The video also raises some very interesting points at the end, around the reasoning as to why the US is the second from bottom country in the list of western nations and how much they accept evolution. Obviously this is strongly tied to how heavily religious a country is. The more religious, the less likely to accept evolution. But what else they found out is more alarming. In a study, it has been found that the US is the most dysfunctional western country (by measurements of crime, murder rate, incarceration etc etc and how much the society is harmonious and takes care of itself) which leads to some interesting conclusions on why the US might be so much more religious than other western societies. |
