I am like the biggest Tony Curtis fan ever among all my college buds studying to be bankers. It's a sad day when Mr Curtis passes away! RIP Tony! I like to be all suave and cool like you were in the movies years ago. Oh yes, it's a sad day when a guy like you passes away!
That's a recent photo of Mr Tony Curtis! |

Tony Curtis survived being horribly miscast in The Black Shield of Falworth. He also survived marriage to the very hot Janet Leigh, his costar in that and several other films.
He was expertly directed by the great Billy Wilder, and held his own opposite Jack Lemmon, in Some Like It Hot. Curtis once said in an interview that he greatly admired Cary Grant, and used him as the model for the voice of the wealthy oil baron in that movie. As I type this, there's a clip on TV of Josephine and Geraldine struggling in high heels down a train platform. ![]() |

Tony took up painting.
More recently he was working on assemblages & collages. Last year I stayed with friends in Palm Springs, where one of Tony's earlier paintings was on view ... The house, like the canvas, was pure California Desert 1970's, complete with sunken kitchen surrounded by an L-shaped bar -- great for holding court and entertaining: The house belonged to my friend's relative -- a Hollywood old-timer, sideways connected to show biz and with the mementos to prove it: Of course there was a pool, perfectly situated: I can imagine Tony hanging out there for a weekend. |
