No I'd say Thais consider financial return very highly and everything else after that.

Actually we were thinking last night about the people we have met here and we have met some absolute diamonds, and they are some of the nicest people we know.

I think it can sometimes just get on top with all the deferential smiling, non-confrontational "face" business, and then if you have a little knowledge of Thai you know when they are gossiping about you, which you can choose to either ignore or pipe up and say "Kao Jai" just to see their face change.
