Going back to the orginal subject of the thread.
It is an offense to disturb your neighbourhood with the likes of loud music until 11pm plus, especially if someone complains. You could talk to a friendly cop you might know and discuss the matter with him. He could explain your grievances with the noisy neighbour and tell him he is committing offense. That said, your noisy neighbour may get upset and lose a bitta face. If you do grass on him, it is recommended to avoid the geezer when he is drunk, otherwise you could be practice target for his shotgun |

Comon guys. Thailand is a big place, there are people with all sorts of behavior. Depending on where you live here in Thailand or whom you meet overseas, you get what you soak in. Stress free people are nice people. Unfortunately, Thailand is a place turning into a struggle for most. Everyday, most Thais here live with the only thought of “I need money to pay rent, I need money to be rich, I need money to pay for sick buffalo on mum’s farm etc etc”. Is not a simple happy life here for Thais anymore with increasing standard of living but the same salary scales for the past decade for most. Simple and happy is a thing of the past, very very past. The tussle for survival has changed many. Generally at their roots, Thai people are nice people. But society changes everything. Generally at all human kind roots, we are nice people.
In Bangkok, some days I meet nice people, and some days I meet unpleasant ones. Sunday morning I witnessed 2 taxi drivers cutting each other and eventually getting out throwing punches at the junction in front of Fortune Center at 3am. We can’t classify Thai people as “Nice” or “Nasty”. It is all 50/50, maybe yes maybe no, yes and no, same same as other country but different. |

Curt said- And I though I was cranky! Might be, but I have never lived anywhere that everyone just done as they wanted with no thought of how it was effecting anyone else.
As an adult civilized person you surely must have some thoughts about how your actions affect others, Would you go out in your yard and stack old styrofoam and leaves and grasses and garbage on your lot line and 3 meters from the upwind side of your neighbors house and set a fire that will make toxic smoke for 5 hours?? They do it here. Most folks are taught or have the common decency to consider how their actions will effect others, only human nature to do it, as I consider that to be a form of conciense, I could be wrong tho. But it seem a necessity to do so in a society of people living together in harmony, Even wild wolves, apes, elephants, all even savage wild animals have a certain structure to their living together or there is terrible fights among them, just like the shooting at that party you can only do your own thing for so long and then someone gonna do you some hurt, be it a lion or a monkey or a man. |

when a permit is issued the cops know what street will be closed off and the place of the party, so they should go around the neighborhood and issue AK 47s that have been taken away from drug dealers and issue them the the residents of the area, with plenty of ammo, might just do a little civilizing and bring to the fore some consideration around here in a short while.
I do know that after just a short while of that noise that shakes the images on my monitor screen, vibrated the lights, as you say makes water crest in a pitcher, and my dog set and cry, I do get a little phsyco sometimes. I am awfully glad to hear about that, thanks for the post..should be a daily news item here in LOS [land of shouts] |

Man surrenders for killing eight
Songkhla - A man who shot dead a hospital director and seven others during a drinking party over the weekend surrendered Friday morning. Vinus Chukamnerd, 52, had his wife contact police to take him into custody from a spot in front of a market in Krabi at 6 am. He was taken to Songkhal to re-enact the crime. Over 100 policemen were deployed to prevent the crowd from attacking him during the re-enactment. After the re-enactment, Vinus told reporters that he became angry that the eight people, including Doctor Suthatip Thammachart, director of Namom Hospital in Songkhla, were making loud noises during drinking inside their house located next to Vinus' house. He said he had earlier warned Suthatip's boy friend, Trirat Choto who was also killed, not to make noises during drinking because he could not sleep and he needed to wake up early to work in a rubber plantation. He said Trirat's and friends had been drinking at a pavilion in their house's compound for several months. Vinus said he met Trirat and asked him to not make noise but Trirat argued that he was drinking in his house. "It's my house, and I can make noise and it's nobody's business," Vinus claimed Trirat replied, making him very angry. "If you make noise again within these three days, I'll shoot you all dead," Vinus quoted himself as replying back. He shot the eight with an automatic pistol at late Saturday night and fled to Krabi. Songkhla police chief Pol Maj Gen Wirun Iampaijit said Vinus decided to surrender because he found it hard to continue on the run. He said he bought the CZ 75B pistol from a man identified only as Ping five months ago. His neighbours said Vinus has been practing shooting ever since. Most of his victims were shot at their head. One of the victims was his own brother-in-law, Boontip Desro. Vinus said he did not know that his brother-in-law was also drinking there and he was blinded by his rage so he shot all people there. But society changes everything. I'm sure most Thai don't really think much of noise amongst other things. Sometimes we eat next to an 8-lane highway, with another 6-lane highway above it, right next to big intersection (The food is tasty). When the lights change we have to stop talking until all the mocys, then tuk-tuks, then cars, buses, trucks etc race past. With the elevated highway the sound just bounces around, not to mention the pollution. We try to eat inside, I'm sure the fumes just swirl about in there anyway, but the tables are right up to the roadside and always busy. When we lived in Prachin there was a spare piece of land at the back of our house where the Saturday night market was, but over Xmas weekend Toyota set up a huge stage right outside our bedroom window and had karaoke dancing "Ka Ka" girls all night. Thai can also sleep anywhere, often times I've tried buying something at a market only to have to rouse the attendant who is face down in their somtam. And then there was the time when we went to look at a prospective house, a 5-bed Thai wooden mansion, new build, farang owned, pictures on the net and stuff, looked really good. We got there it was so new the roof wasn't complete, nor were the stairs or the electrics. We walked round open mouthed, noting where the pictures had tactfully been taken. When we turned round and said we couldn't possibly live there, they said don't worry it'll be finished in a week, they'd work round us. No I'd say Thais consider financial return very highly and everything else after that. |

To # 36.; It is so sad to read of things/tragedies such as that, I don`t hear of things like that happening there, on U.S. news, only about such things hapenning here in U.S. which are increasing in last days. students shooting other students in universities..etc....I guess basically people are same at the core, everywhere in this world, ego centric first, and consideration for others seconds, and when they "snap"

No I'd say Thais consider financial return very highly and everything else after that. I think it can sometimes just get on top with all the deferential smiling, non-confrontational "face" business, and then if you have a little knowledge of Thai you know when they are gossiping about you, which you can choose to either ignore or pipe up and say "Kao Jai" just to see their face change. |
