Whaddaya think - scam? Let's see how many replies it takes for a request for funding/personal information is made.

Just in case this is legit (a very remote possibility) does anyone know of a West African Kendo Championship, of if there is a legitimate dojo in Lagos? If any others out there got this e-mail, let me know and we'll have a bit of fun with it if it's not legitimate.

About 5 year ago we had a similar Email from Mongoloa.

Worst case is it could be a eligial immigrant scam, basically using the seminar and your club as the reason to enter the country.

We asked for information about there IKF (at the time) details. I belive that was the last we heard of them.

How about we offer to go there and teach? That hotel sounds nice and my expenses are very reasonable at only £22,000,000 a trip (as conveniently found lying around in Nigerian bank accounts! What a coincidence! )

Going there should not even be considered.

There are stories of people who go there, get snuck into the country past immigration and customs cause the officials there were bribed to let them through, then have it used as leverage against them to get them to release funds. Or you could be kidnapped and held for ransom.

Anyways, for more information on potential 419 scamers go to

http://www.419eater.com/html/419faq.htm

There are also a lot of amusing stories on that site. They bait 419 scamers into doing stupid things for them.

1. How many of them are coming?
2. What level are they? (well you need to cater everyone's needs)
3. What are the other competing teams?
4. Does Perry need to provide equipments? If not what do they have?
5. Why Portland?

Ask if they could send some photos of them doing kendo, say you want to get a feeling for the level or something - could get some funny/interesting results...

Perry-san, I DO worry. They have your full name!

I think it's a scam, because how the heck would they know to pick your dojo out of hundreds?? I wouldn't trust them without solid proof of identity! I bet they googled Kendo and just picked a dojo.

Please be very careful... Don't give them any contact information that is personal, ok? We wouldn't want you to be hurt!

It would be nice if it was legit, but I highly doubt it. There is no Nigerian dojo listed on the IKF list as of yet.

So have I, and everyone else on this forum. So what?

I wouldn't be so sure that his dojo is the only that has received this letter. And yes, of course this is a scam. I have heard about similar emails to clubs before, and sports events are a common way to flee into a different country. I know that Gothia Cup (world's largest youth soccer event, hosted in Gothenburg, Sweden) have had problems with this from year to year.

I hope Perry keeps us posted about this

Because they come from where all the 419 scammers do. That's different, IMHO. You never know what sort of people they are.(The scammers, that is.)

I hope Perry keeps us posted about this I do too!

Well then, you asked... (and Karou, don't worry - they get my name and nothing more)

=================================
Dear Mr. Hadex,

I find it interesting that:

1) There is no Nigeria Kendo Association affiliated with the IKF, and no such thing as the Africa Kendo Association. In fact, the only legitimate IKF-recognized kendo dojo on the continent of Africa is in Johannesburg.

2) You cannot name your head instructor, provide his kendo resume or the other information requested.

3) You do not know the country in which we are located, cannot possibly have an entry visa and yet are able to specify an arrival and departure date.

Because of this, I must sadly conclude that you are a fraud.

Best Regards,

Perry Hunter
