This is freaking cool, I thought. Almost mad-max like. To bad it didn't work out as planned.

Saw this years ago on TV. TBH it is 100% pilot error. They shouldn't of scrapped the design, just the test pilot. What an idiot firing it before he hit the ground. BTW, when the front firing rocket pods open i'm reminded of a few Anime shows when missile pods open and spew hundreds of mini missiles. lol |

Wonder how fast they got it to take off with the rocket assist. I really need to find a good military anime to watch that I haven't seen before...I'm in the mood lately for that kind of thing. Too much BC2 and "The Pacific" I think. |

What I don't understand is why american shows have to repeat everything they say at least twice.. Really annoying. ![]() What I find annoying as **** is how they say "3 football fields in length" or something rather than the actual unit of measure in most shows like that. Like the audience is too stupid to know how big a yard/meter is. Freaking insulting. [thumbdown] |

Thats stupid.
Just get a Pelican designed already! Replace our fragile Black Hawk as a hot zone troop transporter. And a larger one for supplies. That airplane loaded, landing Im sure would be disaster. That kind of thinking reminds me of WW2 when everyone was designing and wasting money on all kinds of stupid stuff. |

What I don't understand is why american shows have to repeat everything they say at least twice.. Really annoying. Its a visual unit of reference. We see football stadiums all the time, we know how large 100 yards is in comparison to the human. Its just a reference to a commonly sized object. Its mainly this way because the Imperial system makes it anything but easy to compare objects and volumes directly. Unlike metric which follows a very easy unit of measurement. |

Why say a 1/4 mile rather than 1320ft? ![]() |

Well you'd say 1/4 mile rather than 1320ft because once you get to larger numbers it's harder to estimate and the precise distance is less important. That's why we have miles, kilometers and light years. I can see what you are saying though, but it'd be nice to have the figure for people that aren't familular with the size of what they are referencing. Also although we don't use inches/feet/yards/miles here we do know what it translates to in metric. e.g. a 1/4 mile is about 400 meters, 100yards is roughly 90 meters. I guess converting to metric is easier than converting to a larger imperial value.. I should have quoted TigerHawks post. What I find annoying as **** is how they say "3 football fields in length" or something rather than the actual unit of measure in most shows like that. Like the audience is too stupid to know how big a yard/meter is. Freaking insulting. |

I think if they would not repeat all the stuff, the program would be half as long.. sometimes that's even 3 times... discovery channel can be a pain.. Footage: Footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VnSfPh3yt8 October 29, 1980 : An extensively modified YMC-130H, 74-1683, c/n 4658, crashed at Eglin AFB Auxiliary Field 3/Duke Field, Florida, during a demonstration of a modified MC-130H Combat Talon aircraft for a planned Iranian hostage rescue attempt named Operation Credible Sport. Arresting rockets fitted to the aircraft fired out of sequence, some early and some not at all, resulting in an extremely heavy landing that tore off the starboard wing and set the aircraft on fire. Despite this mishap, the entire crew survived. The wrecked hull was dismantled and those parts not salvageable buried at Duke Field. |

It wasn't pilot error, there was a fault in the electronics that caused the rockets to misfire. Some of the VSTOL experimental aircraft back in the day was quite weird, yet cool! |
