You know, in a way it really doesn't make sense for the most experienced leaders to stay out of politics. At least in theory, wouldn't it be a nice idea to have special Senate seats reserved for ex-Presidents?

Putin is a completely different matter though, he wants to retain his executive powers under a different name, but it's food for thought.

Our system is certainly not like in some countries, where people seemingly can decide for themselves how long they want to be in power

As long as the new Prez is Prez for even one day, Putin hasnt succeeded himself. Heh. I haven't thought of that.

I don't think it will really be a day though. He'll do a year or maybe two, to make it slightly less blatant.

Well, I don't he'll have much a problem getting elected again? It's not as if the serfs will refuse to vote Lord Putin into office for a third time.

Bullsh!t. The constitution is very clear on presidential terms, but it doesn't force an ex-president from quiting politic completely. If Putin will be a head of the largest parliament fraction he breaks nothing. I agree. Constitutionally, he's doing nothing wrong (not that I ever read the Russian Constitution ). But that's not what gets everybody so riled up. It's the fact that he remains in power beyond eight years, and probably will return to the Presidency when the opportunity shows itself. That's not healthy for Russia or any other country, even if it's Constitutional.
