You know, in a way it really doesn't make sense for the most experienced leaders to stay out of politics. At least in theory, wouldn't it be a nice idea to have special Senate seats reserved for ex-Presidents?
Putin is a completely different matter though, he wants to retain his executive powers under a different name, but it's food for thought. |

IIUC, under the Russian constitution, the PM takes over the President resigns - thats how Putin originally succeeded Yeltsin (who had appointed him, everyone forgets). As long as the new Prez is Prez for even one day, Putin hasnt succeeded himself. Heh. I haven't thought of that. I don't think it will really be a day though. He'll do a year or maybe two, to make it slightly less blatant. |
