I would still isolate the ram first.

Then...

Different motherboards use different ways to measure CPU temp.
Some use an under-socket sensor, others use the internal thermal diode built in to the CPU. The internal will read a little higher than manufactures specs and the external a little lower, so you will need to take this into account when checking against specs, see below.

To eliminate the CPU I would...

1) Make sure your fan is working and fitted the right way round.
2) Heatsink has a good fit on the CPU, with the aid of some thermal paste.
3) Check the bios settings for your CPU, make sure the clock speeds, core voltages etc are all set according to the manufactures specs.
4) Download "SpeedFan" link is at the bottom of the sites home page. It's not perfect, but the best I have seen to date for monitoring the CPU, fan speeds etc. You can check these numbers against the AMD specs to see if it's the CPU.SpeedFan Site

If it still locks up, then you better get yourself a new PC

I used to have my pc connected to a UPS but the problem is that they last only 20 mins and they can't be recharged by an inverter. UPS and inverters just don't like eact other. Somtimes the black out is for 10 hours. I need to have my pc connected to an inverter so I can keep on going like the Duracel bunny.
You either have a bad UPS or a bad inverter.

We have been using APC and TrippLite UPS's with our "real" Trace inverters without a problem.

You might want to invest in a "UPS" Un-Interupted Power Suppy. This will keep your computer going in the event of a power failure for enough time to shut it down correctly (preventing corruption of files that are open). Most UPS devices also protect against power surges and line voltage spikes.

We use giant UPS devices in our company to keep the servers going in the event of a power failure.

In the states, the average cost of a UPS for a PC is somewhere in the area of $100.00

Hope this suggestion helps

These problems are exactly why you should buy a laptop, not a PC. Laptops aren't as prone to the power issues PCs are since they have battery backup.

How long has your Processor (Your AMD) has been with you? I've diagnosed cases like this before, it seems to me, your processor is dying, you may need to buy another one. Also on another note AMD Processors are not good for the tropical climate they tend to overheat more than Intel's, so they have a shorter life than what they should have.

Now, i am not saying go buy a new one, just ask a friend for his, so you can test it on your PC. I doubt is a memory problem, but who knows.

One sunny morning my beloved computer in several years also had the same symptoms, i was lucky to have a friend of mine to repair it before i went total loco and throw the "computer-from-hell" out the window..

He told me it was a cooling problem, and the processor had been fried.

By the way, the aftereffect of this lobotomized operation is my computer also freezes and reboots.

I must sometimes restart ca 3-4 times before i can use my "computer-from-hell".

(no i dont have more hair to loose in frustration)

Here is a board which might also help. I've used it countless times.

Have you played with the ram? Maybe you have a bad slot or some bad ram.
If you have 2 or 3 dimms/simms, try just one and swop it between slots and see how it works. Then go adding the others back to see what one is the problem.

You cooked your CPU once, maybe the temp protection is playing up?

If I was you, I would also do a clean install, then see if you have the same problems.

You can always bring it to me and I will fix it

Default Hardware computer problem. Help!!!!!!!
My pc has gone nuts all of the sudden. When I am using it, it freezes. Then when I reboot it, it stops and windows doesn't start. Then I get a blue screen with a message "hardware failure message... etc"
Then when I re boot, i get a black screen with this message:

TRAP 00000002 ======= EXCEPTION =====
tr=0028 cr0=800000011 cr2=000000000 cr3=00039000

I have a home made PC. AMD 1.1 gig athlon, 512 pc133, 20 gig HD, Amptron 810LMR S/S730 mother board, CDRW, DVD, TV card and 350W power supply.
Please tell me whats wrong with my PC. I think it maybe the memory sticks 256meg X 2. Or maybe the damn mother board.
Sometimes the damn thing works all night without problems and sometimes I have to reboot several times to get the windows started.
Thanks in advance.

It'll cost you more to repair/fix than a new one. Better get a well known brand and live with the added expense of purchase.

It's just that sometimes the hardware just wears out and there is nothing you can really do to correct it short of replacement.

Hey AZB, you've had two real offers of help - Robert and MrMike - perhaps it is time to accept some help. You may be an electrical engineer, but you're sure not a software engineer... Get it done already! And most techs I know, probably have bigger porn collections than you, so, don't worry. Both Robert and MrMike have seen it all.

So i see that no one has any solid answer. I knew someone would suggest re-installing windows, hahahaha, I knew it would come out of a woman.
I had my AMD over heated once because the a damn wire got tangled into the CPU fan and stopped it from rotating. The chip became hot as iron. After I resolved the problem, the pc worked fine for a few months. Now all of the sudden I am having problems. Could it be that CPU got a bit damaged during that incident?
Please try to decode the error message that I posted up there to see what it really means. I am not going to replace everything. I want some solid answers, no general guesses.
Thanks.

You are getting solid answers. Trap errors such as this could literally be anything, software, hardware, component failure, components threatening to fail etc etc.

The only way to troubleshoot it, is to start a process where you 'rule out' the various things, i,e., reinstall Windows - problem still there, yes/no. If yes, it is possibly not a software problem, so you move on to the next thing... e.g. replace memory modules - problem still there, yes/no. If yes, replace the next thing and so on and so on....

Sorry, sometimes one ends up replacing everything. I saw a trap error similar to this once that was due to a faulty ribbon cable - took me days to find the problem. Having said this, trap 000000002 usually indicates a problem with a physical memory module.

Careful my friend if you didn't get bit by this one! Sasser worm will freeze your computer! It’s running all over the DR and it took out 70% of all our office computers! Might want to check info on the web regarding Sasser…check for Windows / VirusScan updates or see…have fun…it took me a whole day to get rid of the bastard!

AZB if you are using Windows software, have you patched all the holes they have recently discovered? Go to Microsoft's website for instructions on how to patch up the holes for free.

After the changing of the power supply, everything worked fine for one entire day. I was relieved and felt proud of my achievment then the worst happened. The damn PC started to freeze. The same problem all over again. At least the pc doesn't shut off like it used to do before and no hardware error this time around. The Pc simply freezes. Now I am all bumbed put. I am afraid to take the machine to a tech becuase they will see my personal stuff on my machine and might make copies of the pictures of my wives. Nothing porno but I just don't want the filthy techs to copy their fotos and then share them with other friends over the net.
