Those are some pretty old screen shots. There were some newer ones from the recent pre-beta on this site, but it looks like they've been taken down.

But even the upcoming beta is going to be radically better than that pre-beta, this OS is going to be good, plus it looks like IE 7 is going to have tab-surfing, so the only real good thing that Firefox has is less pop-ups.

Longhorn was originally supposed to come out in 2004 then 2005, now 2006?
And when it does come out it's going to be missing some new features Microsoft were bragging about.
Sheer incompetence.

i'm sure someone has already said this, but it looks like it'll have apple looks with windows functionality. which is, by my books, a good thing.

SP2 isnt anything over SP1 or XP, SP2 simply activated the integrated "firewall" w/o notice - and like most integrated microdaft software; it only got in the way
i guess its better than using a macintosh tho; id rather use garbage software than an interface that is seemingly designed for kids
Linux is the way

Thats nice, but so what? By the time that XP is gone and Vista is on the shelves, Mac OSX will already be on its 3rd major update. (Mac OSX 10.5 has already been confirmed to be out by the time Vista is released). Not to mention the fact that Vista's features are damn near identical to the graphically superior Mac OSX. Needless to say, I will not be wasting whatever microsoft is charging on this 'new' operating system. Instead I'll be saving up my cash for a new Mac OSX 10.5-powered Mac.

Maybe old Bill wants to reminece about old oldsmobiles (the Vista Cruiser). I agree with you, the name doesn't really say anything to me. I'll upgrade eventually, but it will probably be simply because of new software being written for it more than any real desire to upgrade at this point.

Today, this website gives many windows fans to see the preview of Windows Vista. Lots of pics included on this link below:
http://www.extremetech.com/sli...0.asp
It will look much different for modern window theme than XP. It will included see-through topic bar window theme, more Parental Controls features including games to lock, and album pictures to see on mp3 files. More new features will include on that page.

For me, XP is well known name for 2002 version of Windows. I think that version on could called different names like Vista instead. I think that first version of Windows Vista could be as 2007 edition before it release next year.

Keep an open mind folks...
I remember installing the Beta of Win95 way before its launch and I was amazed and enthralled.
Bloatware is a point of view. CPUs are getting faster, memory and storage cheaper. I know that that smacks of the so-called 'Wintel conspiracy' to keep writing software that needs faster computers that can then handle bigger software etc, but it does keep the economy ticking along.
I want an OS that is all singing-all dancing.

Any ideas about what that direction miht be?
bloatware, the same thing that plagues all new microsoft products; too much sh** and complication nobody wanted in the first place; being rammed down their throats
ive heard from people who run the beta that this is crap
