I wouldn't mind visiting NY one day, actually.

Speaking of ghost walks, which is the best one (as in the most, and most interesting ghost stories)? When I there was this week I did the "Ghost Hunt" one, which was ok, but I would have liked more ghost stories and less doing "amusing" things with the crowd. I did consider giving another one a try, but was unsure if they would just tell the exact same stories as the one I went on.
TBH I don't have a clue, only been on the one. The guy did tell quite a few stories, but I can't even remember the name of it. All I can tell you is that the meeting point was basically where Bootham and Gillygate meet, on the opposite side of the road to the Theatre Royal.

OK, thanks, anyway. Was the one you went on the "York Horror Tour"? That meets at the Guy Fawkes Inn, High Petergate, which is round abouts where you said (and just round the corner from my hotel, which is in Duncombe Place).

The one I went on started at the ends of the Shambles.

Train tickets booked (again)! I got them cheaper than last time; I'm not sure why, since they're the same tickets.

Maybe they just want you to use the train... too many tickets left and get more cheaper in the end. I don't know, just a wild guess.

Actually it's usually cheaper to book them as early as possible (I booked much earlier than last time), although having said that when I looked up the cheapest price a week or two ago it was more expensive; that was a return ticket though, and I purchased two singles (it works out cheaper). I don't think anyone can understand UK train ticket prices!

I just upgraded my train tickets to First Class!

Well actually I bought completely new tickets, but I saved a bit of money because East Coast (train company) are currently offering 1/3 off First Class tickets, I have a rail card which gives me another 1/3 off, I only booked from/to King's Cross (I'm using the old tickets for the other part of the journey) and because of that I was able to book a cheaper train on the way back!

Hopefully the gale we sent out east won't disrupt your travels, it was intended to die out south of Greenland.

It'll be windy, but nothing much more than that. You're not going by yacht anyway are you.

I hope you're both right.

But " causing "significant disruption" for commuters on Monday," brings me visions of trees across railway lines and/or overhead lines down, massive delays and trains replaced by coaches. Chaos basically

I think they're dramamtising the situation.

I went to York last week. Walked around the walls. Just over two miles, and not a huge amount to see, but it's nice enough.

I did that when I went in May. I downloaded a couple of audio guides before I went (one around the wall, the other around the city). I'm going back to see more stuff. I was planning on taking a day trip to Whitby, but I might have to see what the weather's like.

Did you go to the train museum? Flying Scotsman is there I think. Might be free entry too. I was going to pop in the Minster, but you have to pay to get in there now! Shocking.

I live in Whitby, it's nice. Tourists have pissed off now to a large extent. Go for fish and chips, the Magpie Cafe is probably the best.

I didn't catch the Railway Museum last time, but I'm planning to this time. I have been before though, but that was in 1988! [surrender]

The Minster was the first place I visited, when I went in May, after I checked in. It's right opposite my hotel. It does cost (it costs a hell of a lot to run), but I had a Yorkshire Pass, which covered my entry. I took the free guided tour, and I also saw the Blue Peter bosses. I also saw some stone masons working outside the Minster on another day which was cool to watch.

Honestly, they issue a yellow alert if someone farts in Cornwall. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm in York now. It's a bit breezy, but that's it! No problems at all getting here. Had two glasses of wine in a proper glass (not a wine glass though), two cups of coffee (in a china cup), and Ham Hock salad on a proper plate with metal knife and fork, on the train All complementary.

I've just had a look round the Art Gallery, and now I think I'll pop into a pub for something to eat.

There was also free (in first class) WiFi on the train which I didn't make use of (I passed the time by watching the scenery go past the window), and if I'd been on an early morning train I could have enjoyed a proper cooked breakfast (also complementary) which would have been nice.

It looks like Thursday is going to be the best day so I'm thinking of taking my day trp to Whitby then.
