I move the mouse on screen a lot or during graphically intense situations (games, movies, youtube, etc.) For example, it's real quiet but if I just sporadically wiggle the mouse anywhere, even on whitespace, it reacts to the movement.
Here's the daily situation: I'll turn on my computer and after about 10-15 minutes I'll start to hear a static noise, not one caused by a fan. At first I kept telling myself it was just the sound of the processor or graphics card working, as they are almost 3 years old now. However, I now have the PSU as a suspect. I can try to make a video recording of it later this week for a better description, but do you know what could be the problem? |

I know with my system at work my cellphone creates interference on my speakers and I can actually hear the change in the static noise and figure out a few seconds before my phone goes off if i have a text or phone call coming in. Just an idea |

Problem is you're using an onboard sound card. Get a real card, problem solved. [thumbup]
EDIT: Onboard cards aren't good at dealing with interference from radio waves, and its probably your monitor cable or something causing it, that's why you get a lot of noise during graphically intense situations. That's why you'd want a dedicated card, and possibly some shielding on your cables. |

Is it actually the computer or your speakers making the noise? It's definitely my computer. With the speakers off (Z5500's by the way) it's only coming from inside the case.
try muting your mic and/or line in I don't have any connections going into them, why would I mute them. Sounds like its hard drive noise to me. It's been going through 3 hard drives, 2 WD's 1 Seagate, all SATA. Problem is you're using an onboard sound card. Get a real card, problem solved. I have the Asus Xonar D2. Static noise still happens when I remove card and use on-board. |

If you search through the Display Adapter & Drivers forum for key terms such as "GPU squealing" (example), you'll probably find that you're talking about the same thing that they are: very high frame rates generated by the GPU induces a high pitched noise to be emitted by the graphics card. The jury is out for the exact cause of the sound and/or the component that actually produces the sound but it's definitely originates from the GPU internally frame generating at a high rate.
