Default Alpine Type R vs Type X (car audio)
SQ wise is there a huge difference between these 2 subs?

Go with MTX, they are more efficient, and they hit much harder and cheaper.

I have 2 15" MTX 5000 from like 10 years ago and they still sound good.

Thanks for the suggestion but im really just interested in the SQ difference between these two. Ive had either alpine or JL for a long time and usually bounce back and forth between them

From doing some reading, people say that X hits more notes (SQ) and R if you want SPL.

If you had JL before, then stick with JL.

unfourtunetly i cant use jl in this application, im actually bored and building a home theater sub and the plate amp i can get is 1300wrms at 4 ohm which i cant hit 4 ohm given the w7's oddball ohm rating. that and i can get 2 alpine type x 12 for the price of 1 jl 12w7

I was very pleased with my Type R. A decent blend of SPL and SQ (sealed enclosure).

I do have to say, though, my current Image Dynamics IDQ12 is MUCH better in terms of SQ (for less money), although I am giving up a fair amount of SPL in the process.

Type X are very good loudspeakers, but I believe they are pricy for the quality. Type R is great bang for buck if you really want to stick with Alpine.

I like alpine, my 9835 headunit has been chugging along for a while and i have a type r12 on 600wrms alpine amp in my car currently.

In my home theater i have a 300wrms klipsch sub and it just isnt cutting it. given how happy i was with my type r i figured the type x would be nice but i wanted to see if it was going to be that much better then the type r (SQ wise, not SPL wise) and i figured 2 of them on 1300wrms would take care of the loud part

the amp is 1300wrms at 4ohm so i could get 2 dual 4 ohm type x subs and wire them down to an overall of 4 so it would be perfect

Why not just get a sub unit thats made for home stereo with built in amp?

Ive done what you are doing, but connected it to my PC. Problem was and still is, you have a mess of wires all over the place with another unit to power the amp.

How are you powering the amp? with car battery charger? It is a car amp right?

a huge part of the process for me is i like building things, the amp i briefly mentioned in one of my other posts is a plate amp ala home amp such as this

Ohhh ok. that makes sense. I thought you were going to use a car amp and some huge power converter.

What's your budget? I, personally, wouldn't go anywhere near either of those subs - especially for home use. You'd be surprised how much harder it is to get deep response in a room, compared to a car.

why whats wrong with those? like i said ive been using the type r and ive been happy with that but i figured the type x would offer a bit better SQ.

Type r is more musical

I have kicker comp vx's. VERY impressed with them. Better sq than type r, handles rap and rock better. They do great in my small sealed box. Bet they would pound in a bigger ported box.

Gg reading. Sucks for home. Elemental designs kv on a budget. I have one lying around. Good subs for the price. Swapped it for an Ov.2 I pulled from my car when I got the kickers

Edesignaudio.com 13kv.2 is basically e3.12 older model. I gave it 300 in a large ported enclosure. Good buy for the money
