Default Sky to close Bravo and Channel One
I am really hating Sky right now, first they gobble up the Virgin channels so that we can get Sky HD movie channels and Sky Basics HD. Now they close one of the longest running channels for cable in Bravo and dump Channel One ( Virgin One old name )

Not only that but they are screwing us by not releasing the Basics HD channels yet.

Calm down, there's enough shite on the other 300 channels.

At least you can still watch XFactor in HD.

I might be slightly ignorant here, but could you inform me on what quality programming I shall be denied of by loosing Bravo and Channel One? (I have a full Sky package on behalf of housemates)

The only thing I watched on Bravo was that computer games programme (what ever it was called), which finished yonks ago anyway; and on Virgin One Terminator: TSCC, which has finished also. All the rest I wasn't interested in or had seen before anyway.

I don't watch Bravo anymore. Also same as you used to watch Virgin One for Terminator: TSCC (still mad the series ended)

To be honest, only ones I watch are the discovery channels (and history etc), e4, skysports and motors tv.

Haven't watched anything on Bravo for years, and the only time i ever watched Virgin 1 was for the occasional episode of Fresh Prince.

What the hell is Sky Basics HD though? I have the full Sky HD package but have never heard of it.

Bravo is an embarrassment and it's good that it's going.

Don't think we are losing any of the programs, the shows that used to be on those channels are getting shared about between sky 1-3

Not necessarily. It depends on what you watch.

Some people would consider playing computer games a waste of time.

Actually it's more of a waste of time playing your Wii / PS3 / 360.

You can learn allot more from TV, it's like going back to school or if ya still at schoole xpanding ya knowledge, tune into discovery channels and the like, it's far from a waste of time! Wii / PS3 / 360 is just wasting life away.

If I want to go back to school, I'll re-enroll. If I want to expand my knowledge, I'll read online articles and books, like I already do.

My consoles are used for entertainment with friends, I don't sit down and play them by myself on a regular basis. (Several months since I turned either one on without at least one other person who wanted to play something).

Social Interaction > Watching bullshit on the tube. I certainly don't feel that interacting with friends and family is wasting life away.

Books / Resources that dont have 15-30 second advertising interruptions while Im trying to find information > Watching interrupted information on the tube.

Watching television hardly stimulates the brain in a way that interacting with a book / game / person does. It certainly doesnt do much to promote hand/eye coordination or critical thinking / problem solving skills. (At least not for the majority of people who sit around staring at the tube hoping to be entertained. Exceptions to everything, obviously, exist.

Some shows, maybe, but by and large the majority of television is total rubbish. The availability of quality programming for the price is extremely lackluster. Almost anything I'd have the desire to get from television I can get from other sources.

Am just playing mainly, you do what you want in life.

TV is mainly all bullshit, but discovery channels/history etc are very good for learning and simulating your brain on knowledge you don't know, better and quicker then books, and much better then just playing video games. Of course some information is better from the net/or books though (stuff not allowed on discovery channels for example)

Discovery sucks about 50% of the time and the History Channel sucks about 80% of the time. Why something called "The History Channel" has "Pawn Stars", "Ice Road Truckers", "American Pickers", etc.. on during their prime hours I'll never know. It might be entertaining but it certainly isn't useful learning material.

All of the educational channels are going this route. Discovery is still the best of them but still has **** like "Man Vs. Wild", "Survivorman", "Swamp Loggers", "American Chopper", etc.. in their primetime lineup. Again, it's entertainment but you aren't learning anything of substance.

TLC's terrible too with "Kate Plus 8", "Little People, Big World", "American Chopper", "Cake Boss", "Say Yes to the Dress".

How these stations can claim to be all about education and learning is absurd. All it is is reality television 24/7. So many people seem to just not notice this. Go learn about science, the universe, life, etc!!!
