More likely on standby for 'civic emergency' as Scotland is in the middle of a cold snap and the military services are used to help the Police and others with labour, vehicles, helicopters, etc.
A bit like the American National Guard.

One day a woman came up to my doorstep. She must have crawled, because she was just laying there bleeding. She asked me to call her an ambulance. But did I? No. She was bleeding all over the damned walkway. I told her, "Look, honey, if you don't get the hell out of here and stop bleeding on the concrete, I'm going to put the next round through your head."

To this day, I don't know if she shut up because she was afraid, or just passed out from blood loss, but I think I made my point.

Watched the movie Doomsday yesterday - they seemed to have the right idea for Scotland. Build a 15ft high wall across the border, and install automated sentry guns that shoot anything on the Scottish side that approaches the wall
