Well..if theyve got 1 of those in a pool of 1000 cars, so what? Im sure its had its use chasing thieving scallies.

Also something that improves the image of the police, in the eyes of a certain group anyhow.

yeah 1 in the pool of BMW m3's m5's, top spec land rover discoveries,Audi quatro's/s4's
Subaru's,lotus Elise's/exiges,Lamborghini Murcielago's. high powered Volvo's

takes the piss a bit I think... considering they already have a fleet of police helicopters that can track any High powered speeding vehicle from the air and keep up and record its speed and co-ordinate with police on the ground

all those cars... and you never see the police anywhere.... they must all be at the Nuremberg ring giving them all a track-day jaunt

One thing I will say about living in Wolves, you very very rarely see "panda" cars.

That said people drive like spastics round here and they do have a fair few unmarked cars floating round so I can't say I am too bothered.

Certainly worse things they could blob money on.

I know the special forces police have those Audi quatros/s4s. Ive seen the Land Rovers mostly in rural areas or motorways.

I know there was a Murcielago that was painted in police colours for a roadshow, but it was a temporary publicity thing, it was given back. You got any evidence/links of these in use, or the Elises/Subarus?

'What is up with police departments in Europe getting supercars to use as patrol cars, first in Austria they get a Porsche 911 and in Holland they get a Spyker C8. Luckily for British motorists this Murciélago is for show only. The Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 was covered in the neon blue and yellow livery of the Metropolitan Police department as a promotional stunt for the MPH ‘06 motor show in Birmingham, UK. The car belongs to Lamborghini and will be returned to them once the show finishes and the car will have the awful color removed.'

Yeah lets put the police in Toyota Yaris's. I'd far rather we saved a few pounds here and there so we can keep on fighting massively expensive invisible wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

well I'd rather the money went to the army boys so they are more protected in these "invisible wars" you talk about....

rather than let police swan about in swanky cars without the worry of getting blown up in a road side IED...

but you don't see that do you

Well I always was under the impression that most American cars were severely lacking in the economical sense of engine size/ engine power

We tend to use smaller engines and add turbos rather than cracking a V6 or V8 in everything that has wheels.

I would imagine a standard American Cruiser is less economical than a sporty UK Police Car

Don't know though just wondering....

US also have really crap petroleum (cheap though but impure compared to UK) so I would imagine your engines & exhausts take a real beating over time.

i dunno, the Volvo T5's are thirsty as hell. As are the Evo/STI police cars. in Whitby we have diesel Astra's though. They don't take much outrunning.

Your ignorance is showing.

You are completely wrong on this matter. We use the same fuel quality but again there is different measurements resulting in different octane results. When converted, they are the same octane levels.

Don't be an ignoramus.

Those cruisers they use as common police cars in the US consume the hell of a lot fuel though. Here in my area the police uses VW Passat for 90% of their cars, the rest are Opel Vectras and a few BMWs 525i. Not very sexy.

I wouldnt mind having a few bucks of my tax money spent on some cooler cars. The police in this country is an embaressing shame.

I think you're missing my point. I would rather our police force had the necessary equipment to do their job effectively and efficiently rather than pouring an unbelievably more substantial amount of money (in comparison) to fight wars in other countries that have **** all to do with us.

If you think the police are buying fast cars purely to be flamboyant then you're being ignorant.

edit: oh and [rolleyes] etc
