Default How long would you leave it before you gave up?
If you kept sending stuff to someone and they didn't reply? Today we received an Xmas card for the previous residents of this house. We have done every year. And we still, occasionally, get post for them and even for the residents before them! The thing is we've been here for 10 years! You'd think they would have given up by now.

....Or you could do the decent thing and write back saying that they're no longer living there.

I don't know, I'd credit Bungle with at least some intelligence and assume that there is no return address...

I got that kind of crap when I lived at an apartment. Postal service wouldn't return to sender either. So I just threw it away. They gave me some excuse about how they don't return mail just because the named recipient doesn't live there. Sounds like a damned good reason to return it to me.

I get phone calls from a debt collection agency asking for someone I've never heard of. Thing is, no-one else has ever lived here, we moved in just after it was built and that was about 35 years ago

I'd mark it as "Not known at this address" and re-post it so Royal Mail can sort it [yes]

We have the same.

Thing is our house was empty for 2 years before we bought it. And when we first moved in we got loads of people come knocking on the door trying to collect money.

Its like they were watching our house for 2 years waiting for them to come back [rofl]

You should write them back and say thank you. Then tell them they've been sending it to the wrong address for the last 10 years.

All you have to do is write RTS "does not live at this address" on the envelope; put it back in the mailbox and the carrier should return it to the PO. If you have the same carrier everyday, and he/she is a good carrier; they will take care of it. If they don't; take it to your local station and speak with the manager about your carrier not doing their job. If the manager gives you problems; tell them you'll call the IG or inspection service to see if they can resolve the issue. I would bet money that you will see positive results.

I see how this could happen though. For years, every year my grandfather would send hundreds of cards to old friends, customers, and distant family members. He had been doing it for decades and it was a huge family project every year to get it all addressed and sent.

Even as a little kid, I wondered how any of those people were still at those prehistorically old address's, or how many were even alive. Nobody would even think of arguing with my grandfather though, so every year till he died everybody on the list got thier letter.

Sounds like your grandpa was a real stand up guy. My grandfather is the same way; and I wouldnt want him any other way.
