If you're looking to jump into the Blu-ray world, Best Buy's latest offer may aid you in your cause.

Best Buy is putting some muscle behind its Blu-ray support. In addition to two double-page spreads touting Blu-ray titles in last weekend's newspaper inserts, the retailer has just rolled out an offer that's sure to pique the interest of anyone itching to dip their toe in the Blu-ray waters, particularly if they have kids. The retailer is currently selling the Insignia NS-BRDVD for $199, and, in a welcome twist, they're including a coupon book for $100 off on a selection of titles from Disney, Touchstone, and Miramax. No word on what those titles might be (if anyone picks one of these up, please email us the full details), but this does present an interesting opportunity.

According to the player's specs, it supports a variety of disc formats, is capable of 1080p upconversion via HDMI, and of course, it plays Blu-ray movies in all their high definition glory. Built-in decoders support Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD, and Dolby TrueHD sound. Outputs include HDMI, stereo audio, composite video, component video, digital optical audio, and digital coaxial audio. And oh yeah, it comes with a remote.

This is, far-and-away, the best hardware deal Blu-ray has ever seen. What's nice, is the Insignia player has actually been reviewed well and has full DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD support. I can't see how any one on the fence about adopting Blu-ray could hold back now.

With satellite, cable and internet companies offering on demand HD movies, this is definitely a much needed move.

I can't see how any one on the fence about adopting Blu-ray could hold back now.

LoL, maybe because you need a freakin expensive TV set too to enjoy HD movies? At least that is the reason why I havent "adopted" the technology yet. I bought a nice Sony Trinitron CRT flatscreen TV four years ago and its great.

Well, of course you need a HD display but considering SDTVs are almost a thing of the past on the market, the adoption rate is ramping up and prices continually drop on them.

I know, I'm just saying many people are waiting for prices to drop further down into the 600€ range (for 41" displays). At least I do. Since he said there is no reason to wait any longer.

I can understand that but I am sure he was referring to those with a HD display considering a player.

Yeah, if I owned an HD TV already I'd definately consider buying this player. It is a sweet deal indeed. Here the cheapest (decent) player costs about 300€, thats insane.

Prices start at 317€ for the 40GB version. The 160GB version with the remote control costs 450€.

You can get a PS3 for $250, which is a fantastic deal...Sony is offering a $150 kick back when you sign up for a Sony credit card and make a purchase of more than $299.

PS3 will get used more than a low-end Blu-Ray player

Well you're not really 'on the fence' with Blu-ray if you don't even own an HDTV, are you? I said there's no reason for people on the fence to not buy this player.
