Just got through watching the movie. All I can say is that I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt the movie was severely lacking.

The plot? wtf?

Characters? forgettable.

The movie had no soul to it. That's all I can say. [thumbdown] And this is coming from a person who really wanted the movie to be good. [no]

I'd like to go on record and say the nuclear explosion was probably the finest one ever put to film since... probably Terminator 2.

Unfortunately it had no place being in the film. I'm pretty sure that ILM must have created that in their spare time one lazy week and put it on their 'cool shelf', that is until Lucas and Spielberg saw it and thought "Hmmmm....how can we shoehorn that into our retirement fund....I mean, film".

Besides, yes the other things are more believable in those movies because they were well done. Not to mention, its part of the immersion, and finding a religious artifact that actually works is way better than stupid aliens.
Why is finding a religious artifact that works more believable than aliens?

Spalko asked to know everything, and her poor little Russian brain couldn't cope with it so she she kind of vapourised and then got sucked through the portal.

I saw the movie and have to echo what others are saying here, although I personally thought it was better than Temple of Doom.

Spoilers
You could tell it was another one of those movies where they knew where they wanted to end up, but didn't quite know how to get there. The biggest problems for me were the whole dead aliens coming back to life when the missing skull was replaced. It wasn't really explained why that happens.

And of course the Russian women dieing at the end when she wants all the knowledge in the universe. Now if it was a bit like Stargate where the aliens are evil and actually enslaved humanity, then when they wake up, they want to kill the humans, that would make more sense.

I guess we are supposed to believe the aliens saw she wanted the knowledge for evil and so killed her. But then why offer the gift in the first place.

But having said that, the take off scene at the end was probably the best one I have ever seen in a movie.

I liked the traditional look of the UFO as well, rather than the dark grim looking organic ones we see in the "modern" films.
Im sure this is what the guys in the 50s-60s wanted the UFOs to look like but obviously never had the technology to show it.

Oh look Cleeve it dropped to a 7.7 on imdb [rolleyes] Like I said it will continue to drop.

Besides, yes the other things are more believable in those movies because they were well done. Not to mention, its part of the immersion, and finding a religious artifact that actually works is way better than stupid aliens.

They explained nothing about the aliens, and the whole thing was useless. What was even the point of returning the skull? Nothing happened besides the person who returned it was killed. LAME
Are you just not reading my posts? I believe I'M the one who said it would drop:

And for the record, I gave it a solid 8/10 on IMDB. I understand it isn't a perfect movie, BUT I also understand that neither were any of the old ones. I think it will end up dropping to somewhere between a 7.5 and 8.0, but for it to be as "TERRIBLY BAD" as you make it out to be it would have to drop below a 6, which AINT gonna happen, not even close.
Not to mention it's at a 7.7 after 17,000 votes. That's more votes than a LOT of movies EVER get. So you can no longer use your 'it's only the fanboys who rated it so high'. in fact, if anything, the 'fanboys' of the series tend to be hating this new one the most.

Well I didn't want to spoil it for anyone but the reason it sucks:

-Overused CG that looks like dog crap. We don't need stupid 3d gophers that have ABSOLUTELY no point in the movie other than be a FAILED attempt at humor. You can totally tell George Lucas added that crap in just like the stupid Honey Comb guy in ROTJ.
-CG was supposed to only be at about 30% and it was well more than that. You can tell they didn't film on location anywhere. Hell, the sound stage for the quick sand pit looked awful and you could totally tell it was made in a sound stage.
-The Nuclear Explosion in the fridge was the dumbest thing on the face of this planet.
-Indiana Jones doesn't fire a single shot. In the first and third one he gets in numerous gun battles. It was lame that he had a million chances to finally use his gun or another gun and doesn't.
-The Tarzan monkey sequence was more stupid CG crap that didn't need to be in the movie. The monkey's actually attacked the Russians which was dumb as hell.
-The whole truck chase sequence was totally crap. It should have been centered around the big tree grinder, but that thing gets shot and just vanishes.
-Mutt fighting with a sword while standing in the middle of two trucks was stupid, with him getting hit in the balls and it was again totally lame.
-There was ZERO character development. Indiana and Marion fight once then all the sudden they are in love and get married even though they haven't seen each other for years.
-The Whole alien thing was STUPID. Not to mention, they showed a big CG alien which again looked totally stupid.
-The Marriage scene was pointless.
-The story was totally stupid, and it felt like nothing was actually accomplished. So they return the skull and a Russian gets killed when she was supposed to get a gift?
-Some squad of Russians break into area 51 which is apparently guarded by 5 guards and no one else. Not to mention, they still perform a nuclear test after there has been a breach.
-The stupid scene where Marion drives a truck off a cliff and lands on a tree and magically it reaches the river.
-The Waterfall scene was stupid, but I was willing to accept this as more than anything else as it seemed more of the indy style and reminded me of TOD.
Yep you pretty much summed it up. I would also like to add:

The 'Crystal Skull' was nothing as i imagined it, just like a big piece of tacky plastic. It was also 'magnetic' to what it felt like, when it felt like it - common, have some consistancy in your film!
Also that rocket sled thing in area 51 must be related to the experiments that John Stapp did in the 50's where he was put under 46g's, I dont think Indy, without being strapped down would have been able to jump around after that.

I appreciate the fact that you enjoyed it Cleeve. I actually envy the fact that you had a pleasant viewing experience. I, on the other hand, am one of the biggest Jones fans on the planet, and personally thought Crystal Skull was atrocious. It's almost as if Harrison Ford knew that he was in a crappy movie, and his enthusiasm didn't pick up until half-way through. Everything seemed so....forced.

"Looks like you brought a knife..."

*Dramatic Zoom Out*

"...to a gun fight." [rofl]

It's almost as if the movie was written by a 5th grader.

The russians caught up with it rather quickly afterwards as well...

I admit, that I did enjoy it. I don't think the Alien idea is that cheesy (especially if you look at real archaeology, and see that indeed "Aliens" may have been around alot longer than just 1947). Sure, parts could have been better, and some things were a bit off. But on the whole, my whole family did enjoy it.

I would have walked out if my wife didn't want to stay until the end. I don't know why I fell for the hype because this is typical Hollywood trash. It's just like Star Wars all over again.

It's not even the plot, or the story, or the acting of the cast. It's the way it was handled. There were so many cheesy moments in Skull that it felt entirely out of place from the other movies. The main argument of Indy 4 is not that the movie had an absurd plot (even though that may be), it's the fact that the script felt like it was written by a 10 year old, and that the over-the-top situations Indy found himself in were so cheesy and poorly handled that it's almost as if the movie was designed for kids.

Not to mention, religion is more widely accepted than aliens.

Which is a shame when you consider which one is more likely to be true.

Yeah, I just can't understand why we have so many Fox Maulders running around.
